Chapter 251
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 251:
âYes,â Hadley replied, finally able to speak. âIâm okay now. Thank you.â
âAlright then.â
Eric let out a sigh of relief and placed the glass on the table. He playfully flicked her nose. âReally, Hadley? Choking on bread? Are you trying to win a prize for clumsiness?â
As she turned her head away, Hadleyâs frown deepened.
She didnât like him touching herânot one bit.
As soon as she moved away, Ericâs face stiffened momentarily. Nonetheless, he chose to stay silent instead of reacting.
Deep down, Eric wasnât just upset about this incident. His real frustration stemmed from overhearing her earlier on the terrace, claiming she no longer loved him.
He returned to his seat, continuing to slice the bread.
Observing him, Hadley grew more anxious. âPlease, I donât want any more. Stop cutting it.â
Eric stopped cutting for a moment, then looked up at her with intense eyes.
âHadley,â he said calmly, though his intense gaze added pressure. âNo one declines what I offer. Youâre aware of that, right?â In other words, she had no choice.
A shiver ran down Hadleyâs spine. This was typical of Eric.
Taking a deep breath, she finally asked, âThen what is it that you really want from me?â
Now they were finally getting to the main point.
As he leaned forward, Ericâs tone was firm. âIâve already told you. Forget about the divorce and come back to me.â
âThatâs not my question.â Hadley shook her head, her gaze locked on his, searching for his real motives. âWhat I want to know isâwhy are you doing all of this?â
What?
Her question visibly stunned Eric.

Wasnât it clear? He wanted her back, so he took action. It was that simple!
Hadley laughed softly, her tone tinged with mockery. âYou want me back⦠but whatâs the real reason? Surely, itâs not because youâve fallen in love with me overnight?â Love?
A frown creased Ericâs forehead. He hadnât actually thought about love in their equation.
His momentary hesitation confirmed Hadleyâs suspicionsâhis motives were anything but romantic.
She gave a knowing smile. âOf course, thatâs not it. A man like you wouldnât commit to something so dramatic over love. Thatâs just absurd. Whatâs the real reason?â
âHold on a second.â
The look in Ericâs eyes grew colder. His voice remained steady, yet there was a sharp undertone. âDo you really find the notion of my love⦠absurd?â
âIs it not?â Hadley replied firmly, her confidence unshaken. âWho am I, after all? The notorious âwicked womanâ of Srixby, the one you threw overseas, the cunning, shamefulââ
âStop talking!â Eric interrupted sharply, his annoyance evident. âYour words are better left unsaid.â
He then picked up a slice of baguette, dipped it in the creamy mushroom soup, and brought it to her lips.
His command was clear and uncompromising. âOpen up.â
