Chapter 260
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 260:
Seeing Hadleyâs dismay, Linda chuckled lightly.
She said, âHonestly, I wasnât planning on telling you, but watching you scramble aimlessly, fighting so fiercely⦠I just couldnât hold back.â
She then fetched a pair of sunglasses from her purse and slipped them on.
As the elevator doors opened, Linda exited first.
Left alone, Hadley remained motionless, her face ashen.
What was the point of this interview now? It seemed utterly pointless since she wouldnât get the job anyway.
Rage and frustration surged within her, compelling her to confront Eric directly.
As she exited the building, Hadley dialed his number.
The phone just kept ringingâno answer.
It wasnât that Eric was deliberately avoiding her; he was simply tied up.
With a frustrated sigh, Hadley put her phone away.
He expected her to be available later tonight?
If that was his game, she would play along. Tonight would be the night.
At six oâclock, Ericâs call finally came through.
âHello.â
âIâm on my way up,â Eric said curtly. âGet ready, and weâll set off.â
Hadley let out a quiet scoff. âFine.â
Upon arriving at her apartment, Eric found the door unlocked. He nudged it open without effort. âYou should lock your door. Itâs not safe.â
He stopped mid-sentence as he caught sight of Hadley, rigid and cold on the sofa, her gaze fixed on him.
He hesitated for a moment, but then approached slowly. âWhatâs going on?â He sat down opposite her. âBad day? You seem upset.â
Narrowing her eyes, Hadley had had enough of his act. Her anger was mounting, and she struggled to keep it under control. She inhaled deeply, striving to keep her tone steady. âEric, please, just let me go.â
Ericâs eyebrow arched, intrigued by her plea. âWhat do you mean?â
Hadleyâs hands were clenched so tightly that her nails dug into her skin. âYou were behind this,â she managed to say. âYou were the one who told all the dance venues in Srixby not to hire me, werenât you?â
Ericâs expression darkened. âHow did you find out? Who told you?â
Hadley exhaled sharply. Did it really matter?
âItâs not important who told me, Eric.â She dismissed the how of her discovery. The real issue was his interference in her career. âI need to work. I need this job and I need to be left alone. Please, just stop meddling.â
âYour job?â Eric looked puzzled, almost offended. âYou refer to those gigs as your job? Hadley, youâre ruining your careerâand yourselfâdancing in those clubs!â
âIâd rather take that risk!â Hadley countered, her voice trembling with fury.
Tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
Did he think she was ignorant? She was painfully aware that places like Galant werenât exactly nobleâif anything, they were notoriousâbut circumstances had forced her hand.
