Chapter 27
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 27:
As a leading actress in the city, Linda wielded considerable popularity and influence.
Moreover, she was engaged to Ernest Flynn, Ericâs elder brother.
Her not showing up tonight would certainly stir the media.
Linda responded with a relaxed smile,
âWe didnât have any major press here today anywayâ¦â
Eric was quick to counter,
âIn this era, news travels instantly, even with just a smartphone. Itâs essential to stay vigilant.â
âYou make a good point,â replied Linda. âNow, whatâs our plan?â
Ericâs gaze then shifted to Hadley, who had been silently observing. He finally broke the silence with a stern suggestion.
âChange your outfit.â
Hadley had seen this coming.
Her smile was slight as she nodded in agreement.
âOkay.â
Yet, she had a question lingering.
âWhat should I wear if I change?â
It dawned on Eric at that moment; she had only brought her current dress, without any alternatives, not even a casual outfit.
Eric was visibly surprised.
âHereâs an idea,â Linda chimed in helpfully. âIâve got some casual outfits in my car. Youâre welcome to pick one for the time being.â
The prospect of wearing Lindaâs old clothes made Hadley pause momentarily.
âWhatâs the issue?â

Ericâs frown deepened, his tone tinged with sarcasm.
âIs there a problem with wearing Lindaâs clothing?â
âNot at all.â Hadley shook her head. âItâs just that her clothes are quite pricey, right? Iâm concerned about damaging them somehowâ¦â
Her concerns were genuine.
She knew she couldnât afford replacements.
Eric responded sharply,
âReally? You think youâd be responsible for the costs? Even if so, it would come out of my pocket.â
Reassured by this, Hadley relaxed and turned towards Linda.
âThank you.â
âThink nothing of it. After all, weâre practically family,â Linda responded, her smile warm as she instructed her manager to bring the garments.
Hadley returned to the lounge room to await the outfit.
As she departed, Eric narrowed his eyes. Something about her seemed alteredâ¦
Could it be pretense, or was she truly different?
Eric and Linda then approached Nyla.
