Chapter 301
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 301:
He then returned to where he had left Hadley.
Finding her still in the same rigid stance, Denver said with gentle assurance, âHeâs gone now. You can relax; thereâs no need to be afraid anymore.â
After a momentâs pause, Hadley stepped out from her frozen spot, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly, trying to calm her nerves. With a slight, embarrassed smile, she said, âIâm sorry for all the trouble.â
âOh, it was no trouble at all,â Denver replied, waving off her apology. âHelping out is what friends are for, right? How are you feeling now? Can I drive you home?â
Given the difficulty of hailing a taxi in the area and considering her unsettled state, he felt uneasy about leaving her alone.
Denver caught Hadleyâs hesitation and frowned. âDonât even think about saying no. Friends help each otherâthatâs just how it works, right?â
âSure thing,â Hadley acknowledged, offering a thankful nod.
âOff we go,â replied Denver warmly, gesturing towards the car. Settled inside, Denver inquired about their destination. âNeed directions?â
âHead to West Twelfth Alley,â she instructed.
âRight,â replied Denver, his interest piqued further by their destination but respectfully restrained.
Reclining, Hadley closed her eyes, gradually soothing her nerves and restoring her peace.
The car came to a gentle halt on Mayfield Road.
âLooks like weâve arrived. Cars canât go through up ahead.â
Opening her eyes, Hadley seemed revitalized, her usual composure restored.
âI appreciate it,â she said quietly, stretching to retrieve her bag from the backseat.
âHold on a moment.â

Hadley paused at the sound of Denverâs voice.
âWhatâs wrong?â Hadley frowned in confusion. âDid something happen?â
Denver hesitated, his gaze fixed on her. After a brief pause, he finally spoke up.
âI donât mean to pry, but why are you so afraid of Eric?â His throat tightened as he forced out his next words. âArenât you two back together?â
âBack⦠together?â
Hadleyâs eyes widened in disbelief. âWhy would you think that?â
Denver stayed silent for a moment before answering honestly. âThatâs what Eric told me.â
Before she could respond, he let out an uneasy chuckle. âDid you two have a fight? Arguments between couples areâ¦â
She cut him off abruptly, pressing her lips into a thin line.
Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. âItâs not a fight. We arenât back together because we were never together in the first place!â
Denver was caught off guard.
What was going on?
âYouâre not back together?â His brows furrowed. âThen⦠why would Eric say that?â
