Chapter 318
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 318:
Initially, Nyla had been against an immediate divorce because she wanted to ensure Eric would continue to look after Hadley until she found someone new, but now, that was unnecessary.
âUnderstood,â Eric responded, pulling out his phone.
Nyla continued, âThe sooner, the better.â
Feeling the pressure, irritation began to show on Ericâs face as he answered somewhat dismissively, âMonday morning then.â
âMonday morning? Isnât that going to conflict with your work?â Nyla asked, slightly worried.
âIt will be fine,â Eric assured her, shaking his head. âArriving a bit late wonât cause any problems.â
âGood,â Nyla responded, sounding satisfied. She turned to Hadley, patting her hand gently. âAll set then. Does that ease your mind?â
âThank you, Nyla.â Hadley offered a grateful smile, her mind not fully at ease until the divorce was official.
âNyla, I should get going,â she said, rising from her seat. She added with a hint of bashfulness, âDenver and I have plans.â
With a knowing smile, Nyla responded playfully, âWell then, I shouldnât hold you up. Go on, donât make Denver wait.â
âYes.â
Nyla then walked Hadley to the door and waved her goodbye.
Eric, still sitting, had just eaten a piece of the tangerine he had peeled. He grimaced as he chewed, saying, âWhatâs with this tangerine? Itâs sour like vinegar!â
On Monday morning, Denver had taken a personal day to drive Hadley from West Twelfth Alley to the courthouse, honoring her request. The memory of her uneasy walk back from Kingsbridge lingered, heightening Hadleyâs anxiety about potential complications. Moreover, Hadley was concerned that Eric might have a change of mind again at the last moment. Denverâs presence would be reassuring. They pulled up to the courthouse, and Denver reached over to help Hadley with her seatbelt, softly inquiring, âShould I come in with you?â
âNo, Iâve got this.â Hadley gave a small wave of dismissal.
âOkay,â Denver said gently, before adding softly, âBut donât forgetâIâm just one call away. Iâll stay right here.â

âThanks.â
Hadley steadied herself with a breath before stepping outside the car into the cool air.
Across from her, Eric was climbing out of his vehicle as well. It was a familiar scene, echoing their shared path from four years earlier. Back then, they had walked together toward a new beginning. Now, each step took them closer to goodbye.
Eric arrived at the courthouse reception area with his lawyer, Cristian, by his side.
âPay attention,â Cristian instructed softly.
He glanced at Eric, who leaned indifferently on a nearby chair. Cristian opened a folder, revealing a stack of papers, and placed them before Hadley. âThese documents were prepared specifically by Mr. Flynn. You never signed off on them before, so letâs take care of it now. Just sign wherever indicatedâIâll manage everything else.â
Was this about her alimony?
