Chapter 354
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 354:
On their ride home, Denver took the opportunity to learn more about the incident.
âCan you tell me what happened tonight? How did you injure your hand?â
Cradling her bandaged hand, Hadley chose not to disclose the harassment she had faced.
Instead, she explained, âI was having dinner with the film crew when a glass broke. I cut myself picking up the pieces.â She framed the incident as a simple accident.
Denver, still looking for more answers, asked, âHow did you bump into Eric?â
Hadley hesitated.
âI really donât know, Denver,â she said. âI bumped into him just as I was stepping out. Maybe he was there for dinner, just like you.â Given that Poseidonâs Realm was a popular spot for business, her explanation wasnât out of the ordinary.
âYeah, that sounds right,â Denver acknowledged, his worries easing. He believed that Ericâs presence was just coincidental and not an attempt to reconnect with Hadley.
Relieved, Denver walked Hadley to her apartment door.
âHadley.â
She stopped, uncertain whether Denver meant to come inside.
With a gentle smile and averted eyes, Denver expressed his concern.
âHadley, I hate that you were injured, but⦠â A sincere warmth emanated from his gaze. âIâm actually feeling quite joyful right now.â
Hadley, taken aback, wondered about the reason for his happiness.
Denver met her gaze, reflecting her image in his eyes. âItâs because when you saw Eric, you didnât go with him. You called me instead. Knowing that fills me with joy, Hadley. I canât tell you how much that means to me.â

The thought that Hadleyâs first instinct was to turn to him when she was in trouble thrilled Denver.
âHadley.â
Denverâs gaze locked onto hers, steady and unyielding. âFrom now on, no matter whatâjust like tonightâyou call me first.â
His voice was firm, leaving no room for argument. âI donât care where I am or what Iâm doing. Iâll drop everything and come to you.â
Hadley froze, caught off guard.
A quiet warmth spread through her chest, foreign yet undeniably real. To be prioritized like thisâto be someoneâs first callâwas a feeling she never thought sheâd experience.
Before tonight, she wouldnât have even dared to hope.
But Denver⦠he made her feel as though, in his world, she was what mattered most.
âItâs late. I should go. Get some rest.â
Not wanting to linger, Denver gave a small wave.
âGoodnight,â Hadley murmured, her voice barely above a whisper as she gently shut the door behind him.
A few moments later, her phone buzzed.
It was a message from Denver: âKeep your wound dry. Donât forget to take your medicine.â
A sudden sting pricked Hadleyâs nose, and tears welled up before she could stop them.
