Chapter 373
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 373:
âIâll be there in a minute!â
Hadley bit her lip, glancing at Denver with an apologetic smile. âSorry, Iâll be swamped tonight. Thereâs a little celebration party with the team later, too.â
It was inevitableâthis was her first major performance.
Denver nodded easily. âI get it. Go on, donât keep them waiting.â
Hadley hesitated for only a second before flashing him a grateful smile. âIâll see you later, then!â
She turned, took a few running steps toward the crowd, but then spun back around, waving the bouquet and water bottle in the air. âDenver! Thanks again for the flowers!â
With that, she disappeared into the bustling sea of people.
Denver stood there, watching as she was swallowed by the crowd, his smile unwavering.
Barrie had witnessed the entire exchange unfold. With an amused sigh, he leaned back, a knowing glint in his eyes. âAh, thereâs nothing like the sweetness of young love.â
âAnd what about you?â
Eric, who had been silently observing, finally looked up, his expression impossible to decipher. âWhat about me?â
âNah. Forget I asked.â
Barrie was just about to steer the conversation elsewhere when Ericâs voice cut through, low and tense, his jaw clenched tight. âWhat if I just snatch her away?â
The words escaped before he could stop themâa thought that had been smoldering in his chest all night, threatening to ignite.

Barrie stilled, momentarily thrown.
âWhat are you saying?â
His eyes darted toward Denver and Marshall, both nearby, blissfully unaware of the weight pressing down between them. He turned back to Eric, his voice dropping. âWait⦠youâre not serious, are you?â
Eric exhaled sharply, a scoff escaping. âOf course not.â
Barrie let out a dramatic gasp, clutching his chest in mock distress. âMy heart, Ericâso tell me, which part of that was the truth?â
Eric shot him a sideways smirk, laced with dry sarcasm. âWhat do you think? You said it yourselfâtheyâre clearly drawn to each other. What would be the point, even if I snatch her away?â
Barrie studied his friend for a long moment before shaking his head with a sigh. âExactly.â
He then clapped a hand on Ericâs shoulder. âForcing things never ends well, my friend. Let it go. There are other fish in the sea.â
âYeah.â
Eric gave a short nod before turning abruptly on his heel.
âHeyâwhere are you going?â Barrie called after him.
Eric didnât break stride. âOut. Need a cigarette.â
If he didnât smother the fire in his chest now, he wasnât sure what it would push him to do.
