Chapter 390
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 390:
The moment it jerked to a stop, Hadley flung the door open and jumped out.
âHadley!â
Cursing under his breath, Eric scrambled after her.
She had just been crying, and now she was storming off like she didnât care what happened next. What ifâ
Whether it was sheer bad luck or some cruel twist of fate, the moment Hadley stepped out, a car came barreling toward her.
âHadley!â
Ericâs breath caught. His body moved before his mind could catch up. He lunged, gripping her shoulders and yanking her backâhard. They stumbled, his arm locking around her as they slammed against the side of the car.
One hand cradled the back of her head. The other shielded her as the speeding car tore past.
Behind them, the car rushed by.
The driver stuck his head out, his voice sharp with anger. âTrying to throw your life away? Leave everyone else out of it! Damn!â
Hadley, still shaken, lifted her head. Ericâs eyes burned with a mix of anger and disbelief, his grip firm, as if afraid sheâd slip away again.
âAre you insane?â
His face was pale, his voice raw with frustration. âSo, because you canât have Denver, youâre throwing yourself into traffic? Then why leave him at all? Whereâs that stubbornnessâthe way you refused to let go of me? Where is it now?â

Hadleyâs expression hardened, her gaze cutting through him like ice.
âYou really donât know why I walked away?â Her voice was eerily calm, but the weight behind it was undeniable. âYou honestly donât get it?â
Was Hadleyâs frustration unfairly directed at Eric now?
âWhat does this have to do with meââ
On the brink of anger, Eric was almost ready to explodeâwas he really to blame for keeping her and Denver apart? But as he opened his mouth to retort, Hadleyâs piercing gaze stopped him.
Indeed, he was to blame.
He was the root cause of all her suffering!
âHumph.â With a cold sneer, Hadley accused him. âIt was you!â
Her thoughts then turned to the painful four years spent in Blatheâand to Joy, her beloved child. Overwhelmed by her feelings, she grasped his tie fiercely.
âWhy are you so heartless? Why canât you release me even after our divorce?â Their failed marriage had likely doomed her chances of ever finding love again.
At first, that seemed okay.
Love wasnât necessary for her. As long as she had Joy, she felt she could cope.
But then, Denver came into her lifeâ¦
He didnât mind her past or that she was an orphan. He had made significant efforts to reintegrate her into the dance troupeâ¦
For the first time, someone truly valued herâand yet she had wronged him!
