Chapter 397
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 397:
Hadley let out a soft laugh, but there was no humor in it.
Her eyes lingered on the bag for a second before she shook her head.
âHeâs indeed nice. Too nice. Thatâs exactly why I canât get close.â
Elissaâs brows furrowed. âWhat? That makes no sense.â
Hadley inhaled deeply, as if steadying herself. âHe comes from money.â
Understanding dawned in Elissaâs eyes. She nodded slowly, processing it.
âThen yeah, guess⦠better to keep our feet planted where they belong.â
âExactly.â
For a brief second, Hadley thought she caught something in Elissaâs toneâan odd shift, something wistful, almost⦠off.
But before she could ask, Elissa straightened, brushing it away with a lighthearted smile.
âAnyway, Iâll grab your costume.â
Hadley nodded, her voice softer this time.
âThanks.â
Eric pulled up outside the dance studioâs side entrance, parking just out of the way. He had been waiting for nearly half an hour, watching as staff and performers trickled out one by one.
Then, finallyâthere she was.
Hadley strolled out, arm in arm with another girl, their laughter light and unguarded. She had no idea he was there. That changed the moment he stepped out of the car.

âHadley!â
His voice cut through the air, sharp enough to make her pause mid-step.
She turned, surprise flickering across her face.
âEric?â Her tone was cautious. âDo you⦠need something? Is Nyla looking for me?â
At that, his expression darkened instantly, irritation flashing in his eyes.
âWhat, so the only reason Iâd be here is because Grandma sent me?â His jaw tightened. âCanât I come looking for you myself?â
Hadley stiffened slightly. There it wasâhis sudden shifts in mood, as unpredictable as ever.
âHadleyâ¦â Sensing the tension, Elissa glanced between them and tilted her head toward the side.
âIâll wait over there.â
âMm, okay.â
Hadley exhaled slowly, relief washing over her as Elissa stepped away. She never knew what to expect with Eric, and the last thing she wanted was to set him offâhis moods shifted like the wind. She kept her voice even, careful.
âSo? What is it?â
âHere.â
Eric reached into his pocket and pulled out a hair tieâthe same style as the one she had left in his car, freshly bought from Evergrand Mall. Without warning, he tossed it toward her.
Hadleyâs reflexes kicked in as she reached out, barely managing to catch it before it slipped through her fingers.
