Chapter 400
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 400:
Hadley furrowed her eyebrows.
âWhy not? Whatâs wrong with this hair tie?â
Elissa tilted her head, still studying the hair tie.
âThereâs nothing wrong with it, itâs justâ¦â
She trailed off before shrugging.
âYouâre usually careful with money.â
It was an observation, not a judgmentâHadleyâs frugality showed in everything, from the way she dressed to the simple meals she chose. That was why this felt⦠different.
Realizing how it might sound, Elissa quickly added,
âNot that thereâs anything wrong with treating yourself now and then.â
âWaitâ¦â
Hadley, however, was already frowning as she ran her fingers over the hair tie.
âAre you saying this is actually expensive?â
Elissa gave her a knowing look.
âYeah! You didnât know?â
âHow was I supposed to know?â

A sudden thought struck her.
âWaitâ¦â
She lifted her gaze, a flicker of disbelief in her eyes.
âAre they real pearls?â
Elissa nodded without hesitation.
âAbsolutely. The real deal. The finest ones actually.â
She crossed her arms, her expression firm.
âCome on, Hadley, what do I do for a living? You think Iâd get this wrong?â
Elissa was a fashion designer, well-versed in materials and craftsmanship. Spotting the difference between cheap knock-offs and genuine pearls was second nature to her.
Elissa pointed at the pearls adorning the hair tie.
âThese pearls are of quite high quality, but for a hair tie, itâs a little on the small side.â
âHow much do you think this would cost?â Hadley asked.
âWellâ¦â
Elissa did a quick estimate.
âFor these few, the market price would easily be over a thousand, at the very least.â
Catching the shift in Hadleyâs expression, she tilted her head in curiosity.
âWaitâyou didnât buy this hair tie yourself?â
Hadley shook her head.
