Chapter 412
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 412:
âGot it. Iâll bring the car.â
âPlease do.â
On his way out, Eric bumped into Linda at the entrance.
âHey, Eric.â Linda nodded at him with a smile.
âBack so soon?â
She scrutinized him briefly.
âHeading out again already?â
âYes,â Eric answered. âIâm about to drive Hadley homeâ¦â
He was interrupted mid-sentence as Lindaâs face suddenly turned serious, her smile stiffening.
She had a clear view through the open-plan windows into the living room.
Just then, Hadley emerged from the bathroom.
âIâm heading out now, Nyla, Ernest. Take care,â Hadley said.
âHold on, Ericâs fetching the car.â
âWhat?â Hadley paused, seemingly resigned to the ride with him.
âHadleyâ¦â
âHmm? Did you call me?â Hadley turned, her expression brightening as she faced Ernest.
âYes.â Ernest confirmed, his smile lighting up his features.
âOh, thatâs fantastic!â

With her hand covering her mouth, Hadleyâs voice vibrated with excitement.
âNyla, did you catch that? His pronunciation is so clear now!â
Nyla, equally elated, responded,
âIndeed, itâs the clearest name heâs managed yet!â
âIs that so?â Hadley beamed with joy. âThatâs such an honor for me.â
Ernest repeated her name gently,
âHad⦠ley⦠Hadleyâ¦â
He continued, saying her name a few more times, each one clearer than the last.
âWhatâs the matter?â Playfully, Hadley teased him, âErnest, youâre not supposed to say my name without a good reason.â
She extended her hand. âSo, whatâs my candy?â
Ernest, to her astonishment, actually nodded and delved into his pocket, retrieving two toffees which he handed over to her.
âWhat? You really have some with you?â Grinning, Hadley waved the candies.
âToffee! You remembered I love these. Ernest?â
âYes,â he responded with a nod and a cheerful grin.
âThis is wonderful!â Exclaiming with delight, Hadley unwrapped one and popped it into her mouth. âMmm, itâs really sweet⦠and so good, thank you, Ernest.â
All Ernest did was smile back at her.
From outside, Linda watched silently, unable to hear their conversation, but a cold feeling washed over her.
