Chapter 42
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 42:
The brick connected with a heavy thud against his head.
âAh!â he screamed, clutching his forehead as blood began to flow. Shock filled his eyes as he looked at her.
âIâm calling the police! Youâre going to pay for this!â
At the hospital, Ericâs phone buzzed once again. It was Nyla calling.
âGrandmaâ¦â Eric anticipated the topic and, wanting to avoid an argument, quickly responded, âWeâre almost home.â
âAre you really?â Nyla replied with a skeptical chuckle. âThen put Hadley on the phone.â
âUhmâ¦â
âI thought as much!â Nyla interjected sharply. âYou canât manage it, can you? Youâre not even with her, are you?â
Nylaâs voice grew tense with irritation. âIâve been trying to get ahold of her. Sheâs not answering. Did you leave her to fend for herself?â
âGrandmaâ¦â Eric began, but Nyla cut him off.
âFor four years, Iâve neglected her for your sake! Is it so hard for you to look after her just this once?â Her voice conveyed mounting stress. âIâm about to undergo surgery, and youâre leaving me worried?â
âDonât worry. Everything will be alright.â Eric reassured her.
With no alternatives left, Eric conceded. âShe headed out a bit ago. Iâm going after her now, okay?â
âExcellent!â Nyla responded without hesitation. âCall me when you both get back.â
âUnderstood,â Eric replied, though his voice lacked enthusiasm.
After ending the call, he turned to Linda. âI need to leave.â
âUnderstandable,â Linda said, having heard the entire exchange. She nodded. âYour grandmother is just looking after your best interests. Itâs best you go now. Iâll manage here.â
Linda then looked out the window and added, âThis place is too remote. Itâs not right for Hadley to be out there alone.â

âBoth you and Grandma are so caring,â Eric remarked, standing up. âOkay, Iâm off. Donât overdo it and exhaust yourself.â
âI know. Get going.â Linda urged him.
âAlright.â
As Eric turned to leave, Lindaâs demeanor shifted. Her face became solemn, and she averted her eyes, hiding her thoughts.
Eric exited the hospital room and dialed Hadleyâs number.
This time, the call didnât go to voicemail, but still, there was no response.
Despite his repeated attempts, she did not pick up.
âWhat is happening?â Eric muttered under his breath.
As he drove out of the hospitalâs parking lot, he kept an eye out for her, suspecting that she hadnât gotten very far. In this neighborhood, catching a taxi was notoriously difficult.
After some time, there was still no sign of her. Perhaps she had managed to find a ride back to Silver Villas. That seemed likely.
