Chapter 438
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 438:
Denverâs voice stopped her as she started to walk away.
âYes?â She turned around, her smile soft. âWhatâs on your mind? You know I donât like fuss, Denver.â
âItâs not thatâ¦â
Denver gave a sheepish grin before his expression grew earnest. âHadley, when are we going to make things official between us?â
Her expression showed surprise at his question.
âIâm not pushing for an immediate decision,â Denver quickly added, hoping to ease any pressure. âJust think about it, okay? Things have been really good between us, right?â
Hadley was momentarily speechless, her lips parted in surprise.
âIf you believe Iâm the right choiceâ¦â
She remained silent. Although Denver noticed her quietude, his spirit didnât falter. âThink about it while youâre away, and letâs decide when youâre back, okay?â
Without waiting for her response, he continued, âI need to leave now.â
Flashing a hopeful smile, Denver started his car and pulled away.
Rooted to the spot, Hadley pondered. Would she have an answer for him after her trip?
As Denver drove off, he didnât notice another vehicle trailing him closely. Leaving Mayfield Road, the following car suddenly sped up, overtaking him and blocking his way.
Shocked, Denver quickly exited his vehicle.
Wilma emerged from the intercepting car.

âMom?â His surprise was mild. âWhat are you doing out here?â
âDenver!â Wilmaâs eyes darted to his car, and she pressed a hand to her forehead. âIs this the life you envisioned?â
Denver managed everything in his life, right down to the ordinary sedan he drove.
âWhat are you implying? Whatâs wrong with my life now?â Denver shrugged. âI donât see an issue with it.â
âYOUâ¦â
Wilma was at a loss for words. Her plan had not unfolded as she had anticipated. Previously, she had severed Denverâs financial support, convinced he would quickly yield.
Yet, her plan had backfired.
Denver persisted through the challenges.
Now, to her increasing dismay, he was even contemplating a serious commitment to Hadley.
âDenverâ¦â
Switching tactics, Wilma softened her approach and grasped his arm. âYou need to listenâHadley isnât suitable for you⦠Itâs for your own good. Youâre young, and you might regret this decision later. Sheâs been through a lot, and sheââ
âMom!â Denver interrupted sharply.
Her critique was harsh, and it clearly disturbed Denver as he cut in.
âMom, how can you talk about her like that? Hadleyâs been divorced, yes, but sheâs committed no crime!â
