Chapter 440
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 440:
âThank you, Mommy! I absolutely adore it!â
âAre you happy?â Hadley stroked her daughterâs hair affectionately.
âYes! I am!â
Joyâs expression radiated pure joy, and Hadleyâs heart swelled with happiness. She managed to hold back her tears, choosing instead to beam back at her daughter.
âIf Joy is happy, Mommy is happy too.â
Colleen approached with a glass of water. âTake a drink. You mustâve come straight from the airport, right?â
Aware of Hadleyâs arrival, she had hurried over from her department.
Colleen, an intern doctor at the hospital and a PhD candidate at the University of Blatheâs medical school, took special care of Joy.
This allowed Hadley to travel back to Srixby without worry.
âColleen, your help during this time has been immense,â Hadley expressed her gratitude, though she knew mere words were never enough.
âMm,â Colleen responded with a raised eyebrow and a reassuring smile. âIâll accept your thanks, but donât let it burden you.â
âAlright.â
Hadley chuckled softly.
That was typical of Colleen; she had a way of helping others without making them feel indebted.
âHadley.â

Taking Hadleyâs hand, Colleen glanced over at Joy, who was absorbed in her play, and spoke in a hushed tone.
âMathias isnât around today, so I thought I should tell you â the surgery is set for the next few days. Heâll confirm the details with you shortly.â
âOh!â
Surprised, Hadley quickly covered her mouth, tears springing to her eyes. âYouâre relieved, right?â
Understanding Hadleyâs reaction perfectly, Colleen continued, âJoyâs condition isnât life-threatening, but the surgery could vastly improve her quality of life. Sheâs got a bright future ahead of her!â
âAbsolutely.â Hadleyâs eyes welled up as she struggled to find the right words. Overcome with emotion, she could only nod in response.
That night, Hadley remained by Joyâs side until the little girl drifted off to sleep, slipping out quietly afterward.
The day before the performance, Eric was finally released from the hospital.
âMr. Flynn, do you want me to book your flight for tonight or tomorrow?â Phillips asked.
âWhy would we fly?â Eric paused, hand on his shirt.
Phillips looked puzzled. âArenât we heading back to Srixby?â
âOh.â Eric shut his eyes for a moment, his expression showing a hint of annoyance. âApologies. I forgot to mentionâdelay our return by two days.â
Phillips was confused. âBut why the delay?â
Eric smiled lazily. âAfter spending most of my visit to Blathe in a hospital bed, donât you think I deserve a little leisure time?â
