Chapter 46
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 46:
Ericâs expression darkened, his jaw tightening as he mulled it over. Turning to the officer, he made his decision. âFine, weâll go ahead with the settlementââ
âNo!â Hadley abruptly shot up from her chair, her posture firm as she faced the officer directly.
âOfficer, I donât know this man. He has no authority to speak for me. I refuse the settlement! Iâm not paying a single cent!â
âThis isââ
âHadley!â Ericâs patience snapped, his face paling with rage. âEnough of this! Itâs only five grand! Are you really going to turn this into a whole ordeal? Donât listen to herâIâll handle the paperwork!â
âUnderstood, please come this wayââ
âEric!â Hadleyâs teeth clenched as she glared at him, fury burning in her eyes. âThis isnât your decision to make! I said no settlement!â
Ericâs features twisted in frustration at her defiance. Was she seriously going to drag this out instead of taking the easy way out?
His gaze swept over her pale face before his voice turned mocking. âIs that so? And what exactly do you plan to do about it? Iâm handling this whether you like it or not!â
âEric!â Hadleyâs frustration boiled over as she watched him override her decision. Her eyes stung with anger. Five thousand dollars wasnât just pocket change!
Despite her protests, Eric ultimately made the payment, signed the necessary documents, and finalized the settlement.
âAlright, head over to collect your belongings, and youâre free to go.â Eric thanked the officer, and his focus shifted back to Hadley. âLetâs go. Get your things, and weâre leaving.â
Without so much as a glance in his direction, Hadley stood and walked straight to the officer.
âHereâs your bag,â the officer handed it over. âMake sure nothingâs missing.â
âAlright.â She rummaged through it, checking each itemâher phone, keychain, pepper spray, and⦠half a brick.

âEverythingâs accounted for.â
Just behind her, Ericâs gaze landed on the unexpected object. Pepper spray made sense, but a half-brick? âYou actually carry this around?â
Eric picked up the brick, his eyes narrowing as he noticed the dried blood staining its surface.
Hadley remained silent, taking it from his grasp and attempting to tuck it back into her bag.
âHold on,â the officer raised a hand, stopping her. âMiss, thatâs considered a dangerous object. You canât take it with you.â
Her brows lifted in surprise. âI canât?â
âThatâs right.â The officer gave a knowing smile. âItâs not a knife or anything, but itâs still a potential weapon. You wouldnât be able to get through subway security with that. Consider yourself lucky this time that no major harm was done. Next time, you might not get off so easily.â
A hint of reluctance crossed her face before she let out a quiet sigh.
âUnderstood.â
