Chapter 464
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 464:
âJoy!â The nurseâs voice rang out from across the room, urgent and sharp.
Joy waved enthusiastically. âSheâs calling for me. I have to go now! Bye-bye!â
âGoodbye,â Eric said quietly, watching as the little girl rushed off. He hadnât even finished his thought before she was gone, and he remained crouched, observing the nurse scoop Joy up and hurry away with her.
A shadow unexpectedly fell over his emotions. Was it the thought of this brief encounter ending, knowing she might soon be heading to âa faraway placeâ?
âJoy!â Hadleyâs voice echoed down the hospital corridor, filled with urgency. She spotted the nurse holding Joy in her arms and quickly made her way toward them, concern etched on her face.
âMommyâ¦â
âWhere did you wander off to?â Hadley grabbed Joy and gave her a light pat on the bottomâthough for Hadley, it was as harsh as a punishment could get.
âDidnât I ask you to stay put? Why werenât you listening? You know youâre supposed to be resting.â
âWaaah!â
Tears poured from Joyâs eyes as her little face crumpled in distress.
At the sight of her daughter crying, Hadleyâs resolve melted awayâher heart shattered in that moment. It was unbearable to see her like this.
Tears mirrored in Hadleyâs own eyes, and Joy noticed her motherâs distress, causing her to sob even harder. âMommy!â
With a trembling hand, Joy clumsily reached out to touch her motherâs face, trying to wipe away her tears.

âMommy, donât cry. Joy was wrong.â
âExplain to meâ¦â Hadleyâs voice trembled as she fought to hold herself together. âWhy didnât you stay in your bed?â
âBecauseâ¦â Joyâs voice shook with fear. âSomeone said I was going to die. I wanted to understand what that meant.â
Hadleyâs heart skipped a beat, her body turning cold as ice.
Beside them, the nurseâs face reflected discomfort.
âIt seems Joy accidentally overheard a conversation⦠Iâll find out who was speaking.â
âMommyâ¦â Through her tears, Joy pleaded, âDonât cry, donât be scared⦠Joy wonât leave, wonât go to a faraway place and leave you alone.â
Hadley was taken aback, struggling to understand what Joy was trying to express.
âA nice mister just told me that dying means going to a very faraway place.â Clinging to her mother, Joy continued, âMommy, Iâm brave. Iâm not scared of going to a faraway place, but I donât want to be away from you. You donât want to be away from me either, right? I donât want to go anywhere! I just want to stay with Mommy! Waaahâ¦â
Tears streamed down Joyâs face uncontrollably, tugging at Hadleyâs heartstrings.
Her little girl, so innocent, yet so aware of the deep bond between them!
âJoy!â
Hadley wrapped her arms around Joy, holding her close. âDonât cry, my darling. Youâre not going anywhere. This time, when I return to Srixby, youâre coming with me. Weâll always be together from now on.â
âReally?â
Joyâs tears stopped immediately, and her eyes sparkled with hope as she looked up at her mother.
