Chapter 483
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 483:
Marshall caught the implication right away, his grin growing mischievous.
âIs Hadley hesitant to get close to you?â
âQuiet!â
Eric quickly scanned the surroundings and, confirming they were alone, he whispered, nodding.
âWhenever I approach her, she seems to⦠stiffen up.â
âHmmâ¦â
Marshall smirked, slinging an arm around Ericâs shoulder. âCould it be that youâre just not very good at this?â
âWhat?â
Eric, momentarily stunned, retorted, âHow couldâ¦â But he paused, memories flooding back.
In the early days of their marriage, their moments of intimacy had always been brief and hurriedâ¦
Eric vaguely remembered Hadley crying afterwardâ¦
Marshall noticed Ericâs face cloud over and chuckled.
With a raised eyebrow, he said, âLook, Hadley was just twenty when you guys married⦠Perhaps youâve left her with some deep-seated issues.â
âBack off!â
Annoyed, Eric pushed Marshall aside. âAsking you was a mistake.â He continued on his way, food tray in hand.
âMr. Flynn! Put in some effort!â

Eric dismissed his taunts. Was there any truth to Marshallâs claims, though? That couldnât be, could it? Although their past was not flawless, Eric believed there was more to Hadleyâs pronounced discomfort.
After hesitating briefly, he made his way back to the room. Hadley had showered and was now wearing a bathrobe.
âYouâre back.â
She passed him a water bottle she had grabbed from the refrigerator.
âThis turned out to be sparkling. Iâm not fond of carbonated drinks, so I barely sipped it. You can have the rest.â
âThanks.â
Eric accepted the bottle and gulped down half of it immediately.
Glancing over, he noticed Hadley nibbling on the salad he had brought back. He gestured toward her dish. âMake sure to add some protein. Try some of the shrimp.â
âHere, have some yourself.â
With her fork, Hadley skewered a shrimp and held it out to him. Eric accepted it with a smile, enjoying the bite.
He cherished her tender act, confident that their bond would strengthen over time.
Rising from his seat, he indicated the bed. âTonight, you take the bed, Iâll sleep on the sofa.â
Leaning in, he gently raised her chin. âThereâs no need to hurry. Take all the time you need.â
âAlright.â
Hadley returned his smile and nodded, yet her smile vanished as soon as he looked away.
Deep into the nightâ¦
âEric?â
