Chapter 49
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 49:
Abruptly, she spun around to meet his gaze. âIâm well aware of how little I mean to you. Iâm probably worth less than the family dog to you. You donât need to keep emphasizing it; I understand already.â
Eric was momentarily speechless.
âLess than the family dog?â Had he ever implied that?
He scoffed with a touch of disdain. âGood to know you understand. At least a dog listens. You just seem to cause trouble.â
âYes.â Hadleyâs face showed no emotion. âAre we done here? Iâd like to rest now.â
Eric paused, taken aback by her lack of reaction. He shook his head and gestured dismissively. âGo ahead⦠whatever.â
As Hadley turned to leave, a thought struck Eric. âWait!â
âWhat now?â Hadley looked back, her expression tight with annoyance. Despite her impatience, Eric couldnât help but let out a frustrated chuckle. âReally? Giving me attitude now? Tell me. Which room have you been using these days?â
Hadley hesitated, then chose not to respond.
Ericâs suspicion grew. âI looked around, and none of the guest rooms are used. Where have you been sleeping these last few nights?â
Hadley remained silent, her posture defensive.
Hadley was taken aback by his sudden interest in the servantsâ quarters, though she didnât feel inclined to ask why he had looked. As the owner of the house, he had every right to inspect it whenever he pleased.
She gestured toward the living area. âIâve been sleeping on the couch.â
âYouâve been sleeping on the couch?â Eric was surprised.
âDonât worry about it,â Hadley replied. âIâve kept it clean. Thereâs no dirt or strange smells.â
After a brief pause, she added, âIf it bothers you, I can cover the cleaning costs.â

Eric was momentarily speechless.
âIs there anything else?â
It was clear that Hadley wanted to end their conversation. âIâm exhausted, and Iâd just like to wash up and go to sleep.â
With that, she walked deeper into the house.
Curious, Eric followed her. He watched as she entered the bathroom, noticing a suitcase by the door. From it, she retrieved a change of clothes and her toiletries.
Ericâs frown deepened.
Impulsively, he moved closer and confronted her. âSo, this is how youâve been managing these days?â
Holding her belongings, Hadley nodded. âYes.â
âHuh?â Ericâs tone was skeptical. âWhatâs going on with you? Why are you putting yourself through this? Are you out of your mind?â
Hadley didnât answer directly. Instead, she asked, âMay I shower now?â
âHold on.â
A thought struck Eric. His expression shifted, a knowing smirk forming on his face.
