Chapter 495
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 495:
âHadley, Hadleyâ¦â
Ericâs self-control was slipping.
âEnough!â
Realizing the risk, Hadley pushed him away swiftly. Her face flushed, her lips slightly swollen.
In a tone that mixed teasing with irritation, she asked, âAre you going to eat, or what? I woke up early to cook, you know.â
âI will!â Eric flashed a wide grin, his eyes sparkling with amusement. âIâll eat everything youâve made!â
What a fool. Back in the day, he had endlessly grumbled about her cooking. Yet now, for Linda, he seemed ready to tolerate any discomfort.
After their meal, they left the house together. Eric drove Hadley to her dance studio.
âJust one thing.â Before stepping out of the car, something occurred to Hadley, and she swiveled toward him. âMay I ask a favor?â
âWhat is it? Do you even need to ask?â Eric was eager to oblige. âTell me what you need, and Iâll take care of it.â
âWell, itâs justâ¦â
Hadley hesitated before pointing toward the pack of cigarettes on the dashboard. âCan you quit smoking?â
Eric blinked, momentarily caught off guard. Of all the things she couldâve asked for, this wasnât what he expected. He arched a brow, amusement flickering in his eyes. âLaying down rules already? Thatâs pretty strict.â
How was she supposed to explain that she didnât want his habit affecting her chances of having a healthy baby?

After a beat, she simply said, âI canât stand the smell of smoke.â Then, as if it were an afterthought, she added coolly, âSo if you donât quit⦠donât kiss me ever again.â
Without waiting for a response, she reached for the door handle.
âHeyââ
Ericâs reflexes were quicker than hers. His hand closed gently around her wrist, stopping her before she could leave. âWhatâs wrong? You mad at me?â
Seeing that she still wouldnât look at him, he chuckled. âNever said I wouldnât agree.â
His eyes gleamed mischievously. âBut if I quit smoking⦠do I get a reward?â
A reward?
Hadley blinked, caught off guard. âWhat kind of reward are you expecting?â
Eric smirked. âSince itâs coming from you, I think you should decide. Whereâs the fun if I have to come up with it myself?â
Seriously?
Hadley stared at him for two seconds before a slow, knowing smile tugged at her lips. Without warning, she leaned in, grabbed his tie, and pulled him closer.
âHadley?â
Eric instinctively straightened, his pulse hitchingâbut before he could react, he felt it. A soft, fleeting warmth brushing against his Adamâs apple. She kissed him.
Not on the lips. Not on the cheek. Right against the most sensitive spot on a manâs throat.
Hadley knew exactly what she was doing.
The kiss lasted barely a secondâjust long enough to send a jolt down his spineâbefore she released him and turned away, her gaze skittering to the side.
