Chapter 505
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 505:
Hadley hesitated before admitting, âIâm really sorry. I should have told you earlier⦠I wonât make it to the banquet tonight.â
Surprised, Eric asked, âWhat? Why not?â
Hadley explained, âWell, when I went to try on the dress earlier, Linda saw it and fell in love with it. I ended up giving it to her. Now, Iâve got nothing to wear. I canât just show up in workout clothes, can I? That would make everyone uncomfortable, wouldnât it?â
What?
Eric sensed there was more to the story than her just giving Linda the dress.
But this? Hadley wasnât coming after all?
A suspicion crossed his mind, and he couldnât help asking, âYou donât want to be at this party, do you? Youâre avoiding being seen in public with me?â Nailed it!
Hadleyâs true feelings seemed obvious now.
Yet, she wouldnât confess.
Hadley chuckled dismissively. âNo, why would you think that? Didnât you see Linda wearing the gown? That alone should tell you somethingâ¦â
âHadley!â
Anger tinged Ericâs low voice.
âYou purposely gave away the gown to avoid attending the party tonight with me!â
Hadley responded with a firm denial, âThatâs not true at all.â
âHah,â Eric scoffed coldly, his expression growing harsher.
Before Eric could say more, Hadley cut in and asked, âWhy are you so upset? Isnât this what you wanted?â

âExcuse me?â Eric looked bewildered.
âYouâve said it before,â Hadleyâs voice was gentle. âI owed her that much, so I gave her the gown she wanted. Is there a problem with that?â
Eric caught his breath sharply. Could he have inadvertently sabotaged himself?
âTry not to be upset,â Hadley suggested with a subdued grin. âIâll choose my own dress next time. You always seem to choose what she prefers. If it happens again, Iâll still have to hand it over to its rightful owner.â
Ericâs response was one of confusion, his eyes narrowing. âWhat nonsense are you talking about? What rightful owner?â
A light, almost mocking laugh bubbled from Hadley. âYou know, like the pearl head tie, that gown, or the time we both ended up in identical outfitsâ¦â
She paused, a playful tone in her voice. âYouâve always had her in your mind when you choose things for me, havenât you, Mr. Flynn?â
Just then, a car horn blared behind her.
âI need to go nowâbye!â Hadley swiftly ended the call, trying to avoid the incoming car.
âHadley!â
Back at the other end, Eric simmered with anger. Was this really how little she thought of him? Had she even listened to a single word heâd said?
The head tie he gave herâtossed aside. The gown heâd chosenâgiven away. And she kept bringing up Linda!
Couldnât she sense how deeply he cared about her, or did it simply mean nothing?
If Hadley didnât care, why should he?
Continuing to chase someone so indifferent like her would make him the biggest fool of all.
