Chapter 523
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 523:
Eric didnât return to his own room. Instead, his feet carried him toward Hadleyâs. He walked in, barely registering his movements, and collapsed onto her bed fully clothed, his body heavy with exhaustion. Burying his face into her pillow, he inhaled deeplyâclinging to the faint traces of her scent. âWhere are you, Hadley?â
He hadnât slept all night. But even here, lying in the warmth of her space, rest wouldnât come. Closing his eyes only made the unease worse.
Time blurred. At some point, a knock sounded at the door.
Phillips.
âMr. Flynn?â
Eric forced himself up, dragging his exhausted body to the door. His bloodshot eyes locked onto Phillips. âWhat is it?â
âItâsâ¦â
Phillips hesitated. He could tell Eric was in no mood for conversation, but the company matters couldnât wait.
Eric listened as Phillips relayed the situation, and then gave a tired nod. âOkay. I get it. Iâll get ready and head to the company as soon as I can.â
âUnderstood, Mr. Flynn.â
A cold shower, a quick shave, fresh clothesânone of it made him feel any more awake.
Just as he was straightening his sleeves, Linda appeared in the doorway.
Her gaze swept over him, immediately noticing the red-rimmed eyes, the deep shadows under them. âYouâre heading to the company, arenât you?â Her voice was quiet, almost hesitant. âYou should eat something before you go.â
âNo need.â

âEric, please listen.â She reached out, gripping his arm firmly. âIf you were resting at home, I wouldnât push, but youâre going to workârunning on nothing but stress and exhaustion. How long do you think you can keep this up?â
âLinda, please.â
Eric inhaled deeply, his patience already wearing thin. âHow can I eat when I donât even know if Hadley is out there starving?â
Thenâa bitter laugh slipped past Lindaâs lips. âAnd thatâs my fault?â she scoffed, eyes flashing. âWhy are you taking it out on me?â
Ericâs restraint snapped.
âLinda,â he called out, his brows furrowing. âFrom now onâstay away from Hadleyâs things.â
Her expression hardened. âWhat did I take from her?â
âI know about that dress.â
His voice was sharp, unforgiving. âYou knew it was meant for Hadley, yet you still took it.â
Thenâshe laughed again, this time in disbelief. âHa!â She scoffed, shaking her head. âYouâre actually accusing me? Over a dress?â
Eric said nothing, his jaw clenching.
âIâm just sayingâ¦â His voice dropped. âIf Hadley had worn that dressâif she had gone to that partyâmaybe none of this would have happened.â
âWhatâs that?â Linda took a step forward, her gaze drilling into his. âAre you saying that I am to blame for Hadleyâs disappearance?â
Ericâs brow furrowed, his jaw tight as he stood in silence for a moment.
âIâm simply saying that this cannot happen again.â Turning sharply on his heel, he shouted, âPhillips, letâs go.â
