Chapter 54
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 54:
âWhereâs she off to now?â
âStay, even if you wonât reveal your face, dance again!â
Yet, Hadley continued on her way, leaving the audienceâs pleas behind.
Backstage, Lennon burst into the dressing room, his face alight with excitement.
âYou absolutely killed it with that dance, Hadley!â he exclaimed.
Standing, Hadley offered a modest smile. âThank you, Mr. Lewis. I just did what I could.â
âDonât be modest!â Lennon dismissed her humility with a wave of his hand. âJust as I thought, everyoneâs buzzing about who the mysterious new dancer is. I knew youâd be a sensation right from the start!â
Hadley then asked, âWell, Mr. Lewis⦠Does that mean my work for tonight is finished?â
He had mentioned earlier that the plan was just for one performance, though he had also hinted they might adjust based on the audienceâs reaction. Since no additional costume was prepared, it seemed they were sticking to the original plan.
âYep, youâre done for tonight,â Lennon replied.
âIf you step back out there now, youâd dispel all the intrigue weâve built. We want to keep them longing for more, donât we?â
âScarcity marketing,â Hadley responded.
âExactly!â Lennon clapped enthusiastically, his laughter filling the room. âYouâre free to go now. No more performances tonight.â
Really? Hadley was both surprised and slightly embarrassed. âIâve only danced one tune.â
He reassured her. âThatâs sufficient for today. Weâre just setting the stage. When you eventually reveal your face, the excitement will escalate, and youâll need to engage more with the crowd. Prepare for that. Plus, once that starts, youâll see additional tips on top of your regular pay. Just be patient.â
âYes, I get it,â Hadley nodded in agreement. âThanks, Mr. Lewis.â
âThereâs no need for thanks. Youâve earned it. Just keep up the great work!â
âAbsolutely.â

Once Lennon had exited, Hadley took a moment to remove her makeup. Considering the scheduleâjust four hours each evening for a single performance, rehearsals includedâit wasnât overly demanding. She thought about finding another job during the day to supplement her income. Every bit of additional income was significant.
After she had removed all traces of stage makeup and changed back into her usual attire, Hadley picked up her bag and made her way toward the exit.
âWait a second! Hey, you, miss!â
Confused, Hadley halted in her tracks. She pivoted on her heel, spotting a young man a few paces back. He was remarkably tall, standing over six feet, with a slim, youthful build and a face that radiated charisma. Self-consciously, Hadley touched her chest and raised her eyebrows.
âYes,â he replied, stepping forward with a small key pouch in his hand, which he held out to her. âYou dropped this, didnât you?â
Recognizing the pouch, Hadley nodded, grateful. âYes, thatâs mine.â
She tapped her bag, puzzled. âI wonder how it fell out.â
âHere you go,â he said with a friendly smile, handing her the keys.
