Chapter 542
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 542:
âYouâre right,â Hadley whispered softly, nodding again, yet unable to shake the heaviness from her chest.
Her mind drifted back to Elissaâs strange reaction.
Earlier, sheâd explicitly mentioned Robin being married, but Elissa hadnât shown even the slightest surprise.
She clearly already knew.
But then, why continue to entangle herself with Robin?
Elissa wasnât the sort of person to willingly involve herself with someone married⦠was she?
Hadleyâs thoughts turned restless, a troubling question echoing persistently within herâwhat exactly went wrong?
The drive to Silver Villas passed quietly, both lost in their own thoughts.
As they approached the gate, the security guard greeted them cheerfully. âGood evening, Mr. and Mrs. Flynn! Welcome back.â
âThanks,â Eric replied smoothly, a pleased smile flickering across his lips.
Hadley snapped her gaze toward him, startled. Rightâearlier, with Robin and Elissa, he had introduced her as his wife as well.
A faint frown crossed her face, discomfort bubbling beneath the surface. She then asked sharply, âWhy did he just call me Mrs. Flynn?â
âOh, that?â Eric said casually, clearly unbothered. âBecause I told him to.â
Hadleyâs eyes widened in disbelief. âAre you suffering from memory loss now? Have you forgotten weâre divorced?â

Eric was momentarily speechless. The car eased into the garage, and as he parked, he turned to face her directly.
His gaze darkened thoughtfully, caught off guard by her intensity.
Finally, he softened his voice and apologized. âSorryâitâs just habit. Youâve been my wife for years, and the divorce⦠well, itâs still pretty fresh. I havenât quite adapted yet.â
Really?
Hadley wasnât convinced. She narrowed her eyes slightly, her voice firm. âThereâs a clear difference between a wife and a girlfriend. Please remember that.â
Eric hesitated briefly, but then nodded in reluctant surrender. âYouâre right. Iâll be more careful.â
Yet, even as he agreed, a restless unease stirred within him.
Unable to hold back, he spoke again, disguising sincerity with playful charm.
âStill, Hadley,â he said cautiously, a hopeful glint entering his eyes. âIf things between us keep improving⦠who knows? Maybe someday weâll reconcile andââ
âNot a chance!â
Hadleyâs interruption was instant and decisive, slicing through his words with merciless certainty.
Eric froze, taken aback by how swiftly and harshly she rejected the idea. Her reply landed hard, sending an unexpected ache straight through his heart.
A wave of stubborn frustration surged through Eric. âWhy not?â
âBecause itâs obvious,â Hadley replied firmly, reaching for her bag. âWe already tried marriage once, and we both saw how that turned out. Why should we repeat the same mistake?â
Without waiting for his reaction, she opened the car door and stepped out, leaving Eric momentarily frozen in disbelief.
