Chapter 553
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 553:
After a tense pause, Ernest finally glanced at Linda, who stubbornly avoided his gaze. âFine, if youâre set on staying, then stay. Weâll talk when youâre ready.â
With that, he maneuvered his wheelchair to leave.
Eric hurried alongside to help him exit. âErnest, let me help.â Quentin was waiting outside.
Eric assisted Ernest into the car, his expression one of restrained curiosity. âErnestâ¦â
Catching his brotherâs look, Ernest gave a small chuckle. âWhatâs on your mind?â
With a tense jaw, Eric asked, âIs there really someone else in your life?â
Immediately, Ernest lapsed into silence.
For an extended period, he remained mute.
âErnest?â
âIâm weary. Time to head home.â
Ultimately, Ernest evaded a direct reply. To Quentin, he said, âLetâs go.â
âUnderstood.â
As the vehicle pulled away, Eric was left rooted in place, burdened by a deep unease. Familiar with Ernestâs mannerisms, Eric dreaded that the rumors could be true.
Now, what steps would Linda take?
Hadley stood in the living room, her arms crossed, stifling a yawn.
Eric came back inside.
âPerfect timing,â Hadley said, questioning his plans. âShould I head out now?â
Eric approached and gently caught her wrist. âNo need for drama. Head upstairs, will you?â
âHmm.â Hadley quirked an eyebrow. âHow am I causing drama?â She gestured towards Linda. âSheâs staying, right? Wouldnât my presence be awkward?â

âHadley.â Ericâs grip slightly tightened. âLindaâs sleeping in the guest room downstairs. Please go upstairs.â
âGuest room?â Hadleyâs eyes widened, surprise evident. âYouâre letting her stay in the guest room?â
What was she even thinking? Trying to prevent another outburst, Eric held back his irritation. âWhat else did you expect?â
âFine,â Hadley muttered, her frown deepening as she shot him a glare. âIâm going up.â
She grasped the situation. Ernestâs visit required that Eric keep her around.
If he were left alone with Linda, explanations to Ernest later might get complicated.
Indeed, she served as an effective shield.
Releasing herself from Ericâs grasp, Hadley pivoted towards the staircase.
Linda, caught off guard, observed the interaction. It was her first glimpse of Eric showing such tenderness to a woman⦠The once impulsive young man had mellowed, it seemed.
As Hadleyâs silhouette vanished upstairs, Eric exhaled a sigh of relief and faced Linda.
She looked a messâhair damp, shoulders wet, eyes puffy from tears.
âLinda,â Eric motioned towards the couch, âPlease, have a seat. Iâll grab the first aid kit.â
âOkay.â
He went to retrieve the kit.
Returning, he found Linda had prepared herself for treatment, her coat removed and sleeve rolled up, exposing the burn.
