Chapter 557
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 557:
Her gaze flicked toward the set of clothes in Ericâs hands. A smirk tugged at her lips. âWhatâs this act for?â She gestured lazily. âComing to ask my opinion? Spare me. Thereâs not a single piece in that closet that actually suits me. Are these the only ones with the tags still on?â She arched a brow. âBecause there are plenty moreâall of them Lindaâs style.â
âWaitâ¦â His brows furrowed slightly. âYou donât like any of them? Why didnât you say something?â Was that really the point?
Hadley let out a soft laugh, shaking her head. âThere was nothing to say.â
Her voice was calm, almost detached. âI know exactly what I am to youâjust a convenient cover. And honestly? I donât care.â Hadley continued, her tone light but razor-sharp, âBut if possible, letâs avoid situations like tonight, alright? What I mean isâif youâre going to doâ¦â
âIt, at least donât do it in front of me.â
It wasnât jealousy. Not even close. âIn my book, getting involved with your own brotherâs wife is just⦠disgusting.â
âHadley!â
Ericâs face darkened instantly. His entire demeanor shifted, his expression shadowed by a storm of emotions.
Hadley had already lost interest in the conversation. With a tired sigh, she waved him off.
âGo aheadârun along to your beloved.â Her lips curled slightly, her next words deliberate. âDonât worryâI wonât tell Ernest about you two. Iâll just tell him you spent the night with me insteadâ¦â
âThatâs it!â
Ericâs temper finally snapped.
A sharp pain pulsed at his temples, irritation flaring in his eyes as he let out a low, bitter laugh.

As Eric turned to leave, Hadley remained seated, staring blankly ahead.
A strange hollowness settled over her after her outburst. Everything had escalated too quickly, unraveling into something ugly and exhausting.
He was gone⦠And he probably wasnât coming back.
Being his shield wasnât easyâespecially when it meant watching Eric and his brotherâs woman act so close, so intimate.
Sighing, Hadley closed her eyes for a brief moment, whispering a silent prayer.
If fate ever decided to bless her with a child⦠Maybe, just maybe, she wouldnât have to endure moments like this anymore.
Ericâs expression was grim as he descended the stairs.
Linda immediately noticed. She accepted the clothes from his hands, her lips curving into a knowing smile. âIs she upset that youâre letting me stay here?â
Eric exhaled sharply, shaking his head. âNo.â
But the tightness in his chest told a different story.
Linda let out a sneer, her eyes flickering with amusement. âDonât bother lying to meâI know sheâs upset.â
She tossed the clothes onto her arm, lips curling in distaste. âBut why should she be upset?â
Her voice turned sharp, biting. âWhen I met you, she probably wasnât even born yet. What right does she have to feel anything?â
Linda scoffed, crossing her arms. âWho does she think she is? Sheâs not even your wife. And even if she wereâsheâd have no right to treat me like this.â
The more she spoke, the deeper the irritation etched into Ericâs face. âLinda, itâs late.â His voice was clipped, sharp. âGet some rest.â
