Chapter 558
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 558:
Without waiting for a response, he turned on his heel and strode toward the stairs.
Linda froze. Was he⦠mad at her? Or was he just eager to go back upstairs? To Hadley?
Lindaâs grip tightened around the fabric in her hands, knuckles turning white as her gaze followed Ericâs retreating figure.
âHadley, this is all your fault!â she murmured.
Hadley never imagined Eric would returnâlet alone so soon.
He didnât bother switching on the light. Instead, he slipped into bed beside her in the darkness, his long arms curling protectively around her. She drew in a deep breath and closed her eyes, catching a faint blend of perfume and disinfectant on him.
At last, she spoke. âCould you sleep in the other room tonight?â
Rather than letting go, he just tightened his hold. âThis is my bed. I belong here.â
Hadley abruptly sat up. âPlease, just for tonight. Just one night⦠Iâm asking you.â
âHadleyâ¦â Eric switched on the bedside lamp, shadows dancing across his face. âItâs late. How long are we going to keep doing this?â
âIâm not trying to cause trouble,â she murmured, taking another calming breath. âBut thereâs a smell on youâitâs bothering me. I canât sleep.â
âWhat smell?â he said, tugging at his pajama collar and inhaling deeply. âI donât smell anything weird.â
Of course, he wouldnâtâwhy would Lindaâs perfume smell off to him? Hadley regarded him in silence.
Ericâs face fell, clearly annoyed, as though she were starting a fight for no reason.
After a pause, he controlled his irritation and relented. âFine. Iâll take a shower.â

But as he headed for the bathroom, Hadley seized her pillow andâ¦
Hadley dashed out of the room.
If Eric wouldnât leave, then she would.
She refused to share a bed with him tonight.
âHadley!â
He spun around, just a second too late to stop her from slipping into the adjacent room and slamming the door shut.
âHadley!â
He ran after her and twisted the knob, but sheâd already locked it.
âWhatâs going on?â
Linda appeared at the top of the stairs, concern in her voice.
Amid the clamor, Linda had heard it all.
Catching sight of Eric stranded in the hallway, she quickly grasped the situation, letting out a caustic laugh. âDoes she always treat you like this?â
Ericâs face was set in a grim expression, neither confirming nor denying. âItâs just a misunderstanding,â he said.
âMisunderstanding?â Linda repeated with a bitter smirk. âNo, itâs not even thatâitâs more like a one-sided argument.â
âLinda!â Ericâs tone dropped in warning, his brow creasing in displeasure. âDonât talk about her that way. Hadley isnât irrational. If she misunderstood something, thereâs a reason for it.â He had to admitâLinda held a special place in his life.
But for Hadley, that brand of âspecialâ was an entirely different language.
âYouâre taking her side even though sheâs acting like this?â Linda asked, taken aback.
