Chapter 569
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 569:
âYouâre welcome, honey.â
A tiny pang of guilt tugged at Hadley; sheâd been busy lately and hadnât spent enough time with Joy.
But that was going to changeâno more wasting energy on irrelevant people or drama.
Today was her day off, and she could devote it entirely to her.
âCome on! Letâs get you a slice of that pie.â
Hadley lifted Joy and carried her into the dining room, where Melba had just taken the pie from the oven and placed it on the table.
The fruit pie looked golden and mouthwatering.
Hadley sliced a piece and placed it on Joyâs special plate, passing her a small spoon. âDig in.â
âThanks, Mommy,â Joy said, carefully scooping up a bite and blowing on it before tasting. âHot! Hot!â Joy squeaked.
Hadley nodded with a gentle laugh. âYes, be careful. Youâre such a smart girl, blowing on your food so you donât burn your tongue.â
âMmm-hmm.â
Joy tucked her face closer to the plate and took another bite. âSo yummy. Nobody cooks better than you, Mommy.â
âSlow down,â Hadley said to her, standing up. âIâll get you some milk.â
Once she prepared the milk and handed Joy the bottle, Hadleyâs phone rang.
Seeing Ericâs name on the screen, she frowned.
What could he want now? She let the call go unanswered.

Almost immediately, a text appeared. âIâm outside your apartment building. Can you come down, or should I just come up?â
Hadley felt her heart jolt. She pushed the curtain aside, confirming that Ericâs car was indeed parked right below.
Had he been keeping watch?
The phone rang again, leaving her with little choice but to answer.
His voice was calm yet insistent.
âIâm aware you share the apartment with someone else and they have a child. Iâd prefer not to intrude, but Iâm concerned about youâand when Iâm worried, convenience doesnât matter. You understand, donât you?â
After a momentâs pause, he added, âHadley, are you coming down?â
She exhaled a weary sigh, knowing she couldnât refuse.
âJust give me a minute.â
âIâll wait.â
Five minutes later, Hadley found herself stepping outside to meet him.
âHi,â Eric said the moment she emerged.
He stepped out of his car and gestured toward the passenger seat.
âGet in.â
She frowned, clearly reluctant, but it was better than risking Melba bringing Joy downstairs if this dragged on.
With a sigh, she slid into the car.
They pulled away from the neighborhood, and Hadley fixed Eric with a direct look. âWhatâs going on? If thereâs something you need to say, just say it.â
