Hadley’s foot caught on something, causing her to lose her balance and lurch forward. For a moment, everything went blank, but instinctively, she threw out her hands, her palms and knees absorbing the impact of the fall. Hadley managed to avoid hitting the ground completely.

Linda watched with a smirk, arms crossed, and then turned to walk away.

With a swift motion, Hadley regained her footing, seized Linda’s arm, and struck her sharply across the cheek.

Linda froze, touching her face in shock. “Hadley, you wretch!”

“Consider that slap a kindness,” Hadley hissed, her voice cold.

“Hah?” Linda’s disbelief erupted into scornful laughter, and then, in a swift motion, she twisted Hadley’s arm behind her back. “You think you’re tough? I’m charging you with assault! I’m calling my lawyer this instant! Come with me!”

“Release me!”

“Absolutely not!”

“Unhand her immediately!” Elissa leaped forward, aiming her finger at Linda. “You really ought to let her go!”

“And you are?” Linda scoffed at Elissa. “Do you actually believe I’ll release her just because you demand it?”

With her phone in hand, Elissa brandished it confidently. “I’ve captured everything on video! You deliberately tripped my friend! You’re thinking about legal action? Good, we’re ready for court!” She then looked reassuringly at Hadley. “Don’t stress! We don’t even need a lawyer. One video post and her celebrity days are done!”
