Chapter 579
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 579:
For a brief moment, Eric hesitated, but then his lips curved into a bitter, knowing smirk. âPerfect! You planned it all along. You knew I was just waiting for her to reach out, didnât you? And you made sure that never happened.â
âYes, I did!â
Linda met his troubled eyes with an unwavering stare. Her voice softened, filled with conviction. âEric, face itâyou and Hadley just arenât right together. Why drag this out? Just end it already.â
âWhat?â
The shock on Ericâs face froze him. He stood there silently, as though sheâd slapped him awake.
Soon, disbelief spilled out as laughter.
âReally, Linda?â His eyebrow curved mockingly. âYou think weâre not right?â
âDo you honestly think you are?â
Surprise flashed across Lindaâs face at his unexpected reaction, and irritation followed close behind. âHadley barely tolerates you!â
âAnd youâre speaking for her now?â Eric snapped back, his voice rumbling with barely restrained frustration. âHow could you possibly know how she feels?â
âSeriously?â
Anger darkened Lindaâs eyes as she bit her lip in frustration.
âEric, use your head! Hadleyâs the one constantly doubting thereâs something going on between us. She never trusted you, never liked you! Tell me, how can feelings even grow from that?â
âIs that right?â Eric wouldnât budge. He straightened, towering over her in his black suit, its sharp lines accentuating his commanding presence as he eyed her coldly.

âHow about you, Linda? Ernest insists thereâs no one else, but you refuse to believe him. By your standards, doesnât that mean you donât really care for Ernest?â
âYouâve gone too far!â Lindaâs composure shattered, tears welling as her voice trembled with grievance. âHave you lost your mind? Youâre actually putting Hadley and me on the same level?â
âWhy shouldnât I?â
His eyes narrowed skeptically. âIsnât that exactly what youâre doing to me?â
âEric, youââ
Overcome by rage, Linda grasped at her chest, gasping as words failed her.
âLinda.â Eric paused, eyes closed, gathering himself before speaking again. âI didnât come here intending to fight. Thereâs something important you need to understand. Years ago, you pulled me back from deathâs doorstep. Without your help, I wouldnât be here today. Iâve repaid you by looking after you and the Flynn family ever since. But gratitude doesnât entitle you to run my life!â
âRun your life? Is that a joke?â
Bitterness tainted Lindaâs laughter. âYouâre exploiting Hadleyâs closest friend just to make her crawl back to you. Thatâs manipulation, Eric! You canât bully someone into loving you.â
Eric visibly stiffened, his composure barely holding together. In a voice disturbingly calm, he replied, âIf Iâm the one making the move, and Iâm satisfied with the result, who gave you the right to judge me?â
Linda stood motionless, stunned. Did he really just say that?
She was at a loss for words, unable to find a rebuttal.
