Chapter 605
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 605:
Navigating the challenging mountain path, Eric was cautious, supporting her at every difficult step. âTake it slow here.â
Clinging to his arm, Hadley stepped onto stable ground and paused, looking earnestly into his eyes.
Eric, confused, asked, âHave we arrived?â
âEric.â She shook her head gently. âPlease stay here. I donât want my mother to see you.â
âWhat?â
What did she mean by that?
Eric almost instantly understood, but with that came a surge of uncontrollable anger.
âHadley!â he exclaimed, releasing her hand and starting to pace. He stopped abruptly in front of her and asked, âYou donât want her to see me?â
Hadley shook her head, her expression open and genuine.
She seemed perplexed by his growing irritation. âDoes this upset you?â
âShould I not feel this way?â Eric asked with a bitter laugh, his complexion turning ashen. âGiven the nature of our relationship, shouldnât I be here to honor your mother?â
âOur relationship?â Hadley echoed his words, her expression void of emotion, her tone icy.
âWhat exactly are we to each other, Eric? Are you my ex-husband, or are you still my boyfriend while having feelings for someone else?â
âHadleyâ¦â
âDonât say anything.â
Exhaustion weighed on Hadley, leaving her unwilling to argue any further. âMy mother loved me. She worried about me until her last moments⦠I canât stand the thought of her knowing how messy my personal life has become.â

Her gaze lifted to meet his, her eyes brimming with tears that threatened to spill, her face on the verge of crumbling.
âRemember your promise to treat me better from now on? Was that just empty talk?â
Eric found himself speechless.
He had made promises, but could they hold any weight now?
Yet, seeing Hadleyâs distraught face, he couldnât deny her.
âPlease wait here,â Hadley said softly, her plea gentle. âIâll return shortly.â
Eric managed to curb his frustration, nodding stiffly. âOkay.â
âThank you.â
He handed her the bouquet and watched her slowly move away.
The urge to follow was strong⦠yet he merely entertained the thought. In that moment, he knew he didnât deserve to meet her mother. Once, perhaps he had, but who was to blame for that changing?
He was once her husband.
At that moment, however, he failed to appreciate that status.
Regrets wouldnât change anything.
He silently vowed to one day reclaim that role.
Approaching the grave, Hadley hesitated briefly before kneeling to arrange the bouquet of flowers.
Her motherâs tombstone featured a photograph of her in her youth, full of life.
