Chapter 629
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 629:
Eric arched a brow, a smirk tugging at his lips. âThat bad, huh? Sounds like I was a bit of a snob.â
âYou were.â Hadley sighed playfully. âYouâve changed a lot since then.â
Eric shrugged casually. âPeople grow up. You canât expect them to stay the same forever.â Then, glancing sideways at her, he added smoothly, âHavenât you changed too?â
Hadley considered that for a moment. He wasnât wrong.
Hadley knew one thing for certainâshe had changed. After everything she had been through, how could she not?
And yet, sitting beside Eric now, she couldnât help but feel that he had changed too. The man beside her wasnât quite the same as the one she had known four years ago.
âEricâ¦â Hadley hesitated.
âMm?â He glanced at her, his tone casual but attentive. âWhat is it?â
Hadley opened her mouth, but then faltered.
She couldnât be impulsive. Not yet. She still wasnât sure about him. And then there was Ernest. The situation between him and Linda was anything but simple.
The incident from back thenâthe one that had sent her away for four yearsâwas bound to be far more complicated than it seemed. Was she really ready to step back into the chaos of the Flynn family? Her thoughts tangled. Hadley exhaled softly. âJust focus on driving.â
That evening, the Flynn Mansion was unusually lively.
Linda had been discharged from the hospital, her leg injuries healing well enough that, as long as she wore pants and avoided any strenuous movement, no one could tell.
Adding to the energy, Eric had brought Hadley alongâsomething that made Nyla beam with delight.

âItâs so nice to have everyone together again,â she said warmly. âWe can finally enjoy a proper family dinner.â
The meal was pleasant, even lighthearted at times.
After dinner, Hadley and Eric carried a platter of fruit toward the living room, planning to enjoy a nice chat over coffee and fruit.
But just before they could enter, a sharp voice rang through the air.
âErnest! What is the meaning of this?â
It was Linda. Her voice was laced with grievance and barely restrained fury.
Eric immediately frowned. âWhat is it now?â
Hadley cast him a sideways glance. âHave they been arguing often?â
Eric didnât hesitate. âYes.â He nodded, his expression grim. âI donât know whatâs going on, but ever since Ernest recovered, theyâve been fighting constantly.â
âErnest?â Nylaâs tone was gentle but troubled as she addressed her eldest grandson. âLinda is asking you a question. Please, say something.â
Ernest met his grandmotherâs gaze briefly before shifting his eyes to Linda. His voice remained calm, controlled. âWhat exactly do you want me to explain? Itâs just a new property purchaseâwhy is this an issue?â
Linda let out a sharp scoff. âNo issue?â She folded her arms, her expression hardening. âFine. Then tell meâwhy did you even buy a house at Lion Bay? Itâs not a new development, thereâs no planned demolition or renovation, and yet you invested in it. Are you seriously telling me thereâs nothing unusual about that?â
Hadley observed quietly. Lindaâs suspicions werenât entirely unfounded.
However, Ernest remained unfazed, his tone even as he countered, âThen tell me, Lindaâwhere exactly do you think the issue lies?â His lips curved slightly, though there was no warmth in the expression.
