Chapter 648
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 648:
Lindaâs reaction was far less composed. âYou?â
Elissa straightened instinctively, her hands clasped neatly in front of her, though there was a trace of nervousness in her posture. âHello, Mr. Flynn. Hello, Miss Harris.â
To be honest, when she first submitted her design, it had been more of a hopeful gesture than a serious expectation. She hadnât actually thought she would be chosen. Yet, here she was, standing before the couple right now.
Elissaâs lips pressed together, the weight of past conflict settling over her. She had once offended Linda. And now she was here, presenting herself as the designer for her wedding dress.
Lindaâs gaze lingered on Elissa, a flicker of unease in her expression.
Why did it have to be her?
âWhatâs the matter?â Ernestâs voice broke through the tension, his sharp eyes flicking to Linda.
Ernest was fully aware of the history between the two women. And truth be told, he didnât particularly want to deal with Elissa either.
Without hesitation, he tightened his hold on Lindaâs hand and spoke with quiet finality. âIf youâre uncomfortable, we can always choose another designer.â
With those words, he shut Elissa out completelyâbefore the conversation had even begun. The dismissal was blunt. Absolute.
Elissaâs smile faltered, the warmth in her expression cooling. She had expected this. It seemedâ¦
Her efforts had been for nothing after all. She forced a small, humorless chuckle. âIf Mr. Flynn insists, then I wonât overstay my welcome.â
With a quiet nod, she reached for her bag, ready to leave.
âWait!â Linda hesitated for a beat, then exhaled. âWeâve had our differences, but I donât mix business with personal matters. I chose your design because I liked it, so letâs move forward professionally. Consider this a collaborationâletâs leave the past where it belongs. Is that alright?â
âOf courseââ A flicker of relief crossed Elissaâs face, her eyes brightening as she prepared to answer. âLinda, please.â
Ernestâs voice cut in, cool and measured. âA wedding dress is an important thing. Itâs not just about the designâit requires countless discussions for details and fittings in the days that follow. You donât have to work with someone youâre not comfortable with. Donât force yourselfâthere are plenty of talented designers out there.â
Elissaâs breath hitched.
The unspoken words hung between them. Why was Ernest being so particular? Linda herself didnât mind, yet he was the one making a big deal out of it. Humph! What a âgentlemanâ indeed!
Still, Linda was secretly pleased with his overprotectiveness.
Leaning into his embrace, she smiled up at him. âI know youâre just looking out for me, but I really like her design. Itâs fine⦠Iâm not the petty type. Letâs give her a chance.â
âFine.â Ernestâs voice held a note of hesitation. âI just donât want anything ruining your mood. A wedding should be a happy occasion.â
âWith a husband who spoils me this much, how could I possibly be in a bad mood?â
Lindaâs eyes curved with warmth, her smile soft. âAs long as you love me, I donât care about anyone else.â
Faced with her unwavering affection, Ernest could only sigh in defeat. âYou really like her design that much?â
