Chapter 653
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 653:
âBack!â
What just happened?
Hadley was taken aback. Joy was usually such a well-behaved child, and now she was openly defying her mother for the first time. Was it because of Eric, a man who had never played a significant role in her life?
A shadow fell over Hadleyâs face. âJoy, I asked you to remove those hairpins. Did you not hear me?â
Seeing her motherâs serious demeanor, Joy shivered; it was unfamiliar to see her mother so stern.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and her bottom lip trembled.
âYouâre not being fair, Mommy! Waaahâ¦â
Upset, she dashed into her room, saying, âI donât want to talk to Mommy anymore!â
âJoy!â
Hadley was shocked by Joyâs vehement response.
âWhatâs going on here?â
Melba, too, was stunned by the sudden flare-up between mother and daughter.
She approached Hadley quickly, attempting to ease the tension. âItâs not ideal for Joy to accept gifts like that, but this shouldnât cause a rift between you two over an outsider. Sheâs just a child; perhaps a gentle conversation would be better.â
âYouâre right.â
Realizing her own overreaction, Hadley felt a wave of helplessness.
She had inadvertently directed her anger towards Eric at Joy. She paused at Joyâs door, took a deep breath to collect herself, and said softly, âJoy, Mommyâs coming in, okay?â

Gently opening the door, she found Joy curled up under her blanket on the bed.
Approaching with a tender smile, Hadley said, âItâs Mommy. I came to say Iâm sorry.â
Joyâs big eyes appeared from under the blanket, gazing up at her mother.
âIâm sorry, sweetheart.â Hadleyâs voice was soft, her eyes slightly moist. âI overreacted. Can you forgive Mommy?â
âMommy.â Joy spoke softly, her voice tinged with vulnerability as she nestled into Hadleyâs embrace.
Between a mother and her daughter, resentment was fleeting.
âMommy, please donât be mad. It frightens me!â
âIâm so sorry.â Hadleyâs voice was laden with regret as she held her daughter closer. âI promise, it wonât happen again.â
Comfort enveloped them as they embraced, easing Hadleyâs spirits.
After a moment, Hadley broached a sensitive subject gently, asking, âJoy, where did you first meet that nice man?â
âIn Blathe,â Joy responded, her head tilted up as she recounted the encounter.
She described how she had been bullied at a hospital in Blathe and Ericâs timely intervention.
Surprised by the revelation, Hadley pondered the implications. Their connection had started much earlier than she realized. Could it have been destiny that brought them together?
Gently stroking her daughterâs hair, Hadley inquired softly, âJoy, do you like him?â
âYes!â Joyâs response came quickly, her head bobbing eagerly. âI really like him.â
