Chapter 668
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 668:
Beside her, Eric sat in continued silence, not offering a word in reply. After another brief hesitation, she continued softly, âI came to see him today because I had to know that he was alright, but that visit will be my last.â
âHadley.â
âHmm?â
Eric suddenly reached out and gently clasped her hand, cutting her off mid-thought.
Caught off guard, Hadley turned quickly to face him.
He was already looking back at her, his eyes brightening with a wide, unexpected smile. âLetâs get married.â
Hadley was stunned.
All thoughts scattered from her head instantly.
âYouâ¦â she murmured, her lashes fluttering in disbelief. âCould you repeat what you just said?â
âYou want me to say it again?â
Eric leaned closer until their foreheads gently touched. âI said, letâs get married. Hadley, marry me, wonât you?â
What just happened?
Hadleyâs lips parted slightly, speechless.
Sneaking off to visit Denver had prepared her for anger or accusationsâanything but a proposal of marriage!
âDid you ask the wrong question?â Recovering enough to laugh lightly, Hadley tilted her head slightly and smiled. âShouldnât you be demanding to know why I went to see Denver?â

âYou heard me right. I didnât ask wrong either.â Eric squeezed her hand, sighing gently. âI understand youâre still haunted by the separation with Denver. Itâs alrightâI accept that.â
Hadley stared at him in stunned silence. Did he really believe that was how she felt?
Even more bewildering, if that was truly his belief, why insist on marriage?
âEric, marriage isnât something casual, is it?â
Memories of their earlier marriage crept into her mind.
Hadnât he treated marriage as something trivial back then, too?
âEricââ
âHadley.â
Eric cupped her face gently in his hands, sincerity bright in his eyes. âI want to marry you. Weâll build a good life together. Even if your heart belongs to Denver now, marry me anyway, and Iâll patiently wait until your feelings change. Let me be your husband, Hadley.â
In an impulsive move, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close.
âStay with me, Hadley. Be my wife and spend your life with me. Will you marry me?â
âEricâ¦â
His embrace tightened, overwhelming her with unease.
Fear surged within her, and Hadley pushed gently against his chest.
âEric, please stop. Calm down, okay?â
âIâm perfectly calm.â
Relaxing his grip only slightly, Eric looked at her with confusion. âDo you think Iâve lost it?â
âYouâ¦â
Hadley rubbed her forehead gently, feeling defeated.
