Chapter 669
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 669:
Drawing a slow, steady breath, she asked softly, âLet me phrase it differently. Eric, do you love me?â
He fell into immediate silence.
âHaha.â
Hadley released a soft, resigned laugh and stepped away from his embrace. âMarriage is about two people loving each other deeply and wanting a future together. If you canât even answer whether you love me, how can you talk about marriage?â
She opened her hands gently, shrugging lightly. âWeâve made that mistake once already. Do you really think repeating it will make things better?â
Eric remained silent, his expression darkening.
âItâs fine,â she said reassuringly, assuming he understood her point. âIâll pretend I never heard your proposal, and you can forget you even said it.â
Glancing toward him, she indicated the steering wheel. âCould you drop me off at the dance studio first? Then head to your office?â
âHadleyâ¦â
Eric suddenly gripped her wrist, a questioning look shadowing his eyes, much like a puzzled child.
âHow am I supposed to prove I truly care for you?â
His brow knitted in quiet contemplation, as though seeking answers from himself. âI give you comfort, good food, fine clothes, anything you want. Isnât that what love looks like? Shouldnât it be enough?â
Hadleyâs laughter bubbled up quietly after hearing Ericâs words.
âSomething amusing about what I just said?â Eric frowned, baffled by her unexpected reaction.

âNope.â
She pressed her lips together, trying to hold back the laughter that danced in her eyes. âMr. Flynn, youâve just unintentionally confessed who truly holds your heart.â
Ericâs confusion only deepened. âWhat exactly do you mean by that?â
âWellâ¦â Hadley exhaled softly, wondering if he truly couldnât see it himself.
Fine, sheâd spell it out clearly.
With deliberate frankness, she said, âYouâre always fulfilling Lindaâs every wish, giving her the very best. By your own logic, that would mean the person you actually love isââ
âHadley!â Eric snapped, cutting her off abruptly, his expression clouding over.
Ignoring the sharp interruption, Hadley tilted her head gently. âDoes hearing the truth irritate you that much?â Reaching up slowly, she straightened his tie.
It had become slightly crooked in his haste earlier.
âMr. Flynn, just because you canât marry the person you truly desire doesnât mean marriage should become your consolation prize.â She finished tidying his tie, fingers carefully releasing the silk.
Eric looked downward briefly before gripping her hand firmly. âCould you take this seriously for a second? Linda has nothing to do with whatâs between us. Why do you keep mentioning her?â
So, she wasnât even allowed to say Lindaâs name now?
Hadleyâs smile lost its playful edge, growing serious. âAlright, let me say this plainlyâI wonât marry you.â
âWhatâs your reason?â Ericâs gaze sharpened suspiciously. âBecause you assume I donât love you?â
