Chapter 673
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 673:
Patting Joyâs head softly, he praised her. âYou were very brave today, werenât you?â
He then reached into his pocket and handed her the promised candy.
âThis is for youâlike I said.â
âThank you,â Joy murmured weakly, accepting the candy without enthusiasm this time.
Tension lingered visibly on Ericâs face as he addressed Colden. âAre you certain Joyâs okay?â
âYes, sheâs fine.â
Colden nodded reassuringly, giving Eric a curious once-over. What was this manâs relationship with Joy?
Clearly, he wasnât just anyone ordinaryâhis authoritative presence alone proved that.
To ease Ericâs obvious worry, Colden explained gently, âThese tests can be tough on children, and Joyâs reaction is normal. Sheâll recover soon enough.â
âUnderstood.â
Eric nodded, understanding, though his expression remained troubled. Eric gently adjusted Joy in his arms, attempting to lay her down on her bed for her to rest properly.
âHold me!â Joyâs voice trembled softly. âYou donât like me anymore?â
Feeling somewhat uncomfortable, Melba suggested carefully, âYour arms must be getting tired from holding her so long. Maybe I should take her instead? Kids tend to cling when theyâre sickâitâs normal.â
Was that how children acted?
Eric had no idea and simply assumed Joy would be feeling better lying down. Now that he knew, he couldnât bring himself to release the fragile girl in his arms.
âNo, Iâve got her.â

Shaking his head, Eric kept her in his arms, gently soothing her. âJoy, Iâm sorry. How could I ever not like you? I just thought you might want to lie down.â
As he whispered comforting words, Eric slowly paced around the quiet ward.
âYouâre my favorite little girl.â
Glancing uncertainly toward Melba, Eric silently asked if he was handling things right.
Teary-eyed, Melba nodded reassuringly.
Even without Melbaâs answer, Eric could sense Joy relaxing gradually in his embrace, her sobs quieting.
âHey.â
Joy nestled in his arms, speaking through her sniffles.
âYes?â Eric immediately tilted his head, listening intently. âWhatâs wrong?â
âStrawberry milk,â Joy said shyly. âI want strawberry milk.â
âOh no!â Eric groaned, genuinely upset. âI completely forgot to bring any!â
Frustration flickered across his face, his regret unmistakable. Heâd met Joy multiple times, yet it hadnât crossed his mind to buy her favorite drink.
âHold on just a second.â
Balancing Joy carefully, Eric quickly dialed a number. âItâs me. Bring some strawberry milk over right away, yesâquickly.â
When the call ended, he turned back toward Joy with a reassuring smile.
âDonât worry, Joy. Your favorite strawberry milk will be here before you know it.â
âReally?â
Joy looked up with eyes shimmering, and then threw her little arms around Ericâs neck tightly. âYouâre the best! I like you so much!â
