Chapter 678
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 678:
âOh, by the way, your watch has been found.â
Surprise widened Hadleyâs eyes.
âMy watch? They actually found it?â
âIs that strange?â Eric pinched her nose playfully.
âOf course. I told you thereâs a serial number for tracking. No one could sell it off unnoticed.â
Apparently, the thief had triggered an immediate alert when attempting to pawn it.
âBut thereâs some damage, so it needs to go back for repairs,â he said gently, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
âIt might take a bit before itâs ready again.â
âOkay.â Hadley sighed lightly, nodding. Luxury items, she thought, were always causing some kind of hassle.
That night passed peacefully and quietly.
The next morning, Hadley followed the same routine.
Joyâs treatments began soon after her arrival at the hospital, quickly bringing renewed pain and discomfort.
âMommy.â Clinging weakly to Hadleyâs shoulder, Joyâs eyes filled with sadness.
âI miss Daddy so much. It hurts. Can Daddy come and hold Joy?â
Hearing those innocent, longing words broke Hadleyâs heart all at once.
âMommy.â
Joyâs voice was raspy, laced with a sense of loss.

Through her tears, she recalled her motherâs earlier words.
âDaddy loves his job more than me, doesnât he? Boo hooâ¦â
âThatâs not true,â Hadley responded, her own voice thick with emotion, feeling a weight on her chest that made it difficult to breathe.
âDaddy loves Joy very muchâ¦â
âWhy doesnât he visit me then?â
Tears welled up in Joyâs large eyes. Sensing her motherâs struggle, she nestled closer within her embrace, her sobs growing louder.
âDaddyâs mean! I donât like Daddy anymore!â
âJoy.â
Hadley paused as she wrestled with her thoughts.
A part of her wanted to blurt out that her father did care, that he had even been here to see her!
Yet, she hesitated, fearing the implications of revealing too much.
She knew there was a special bond between Eric and Joy, and that he treated her well.
Yet, how could they be certain that Ericâs feelings wouldnât shift if he discovered Joy was his daughter?
It was just like pets being adored by many, yet only a select few commit to them for life.
âMelba.â Joy raised her head, tears in her eyes, and addressed Melba.
âCould you please call that nice uncle?â
âWellâ¦â Melba paused, uncertain, her gaze shifting toward Hadley for guidance.
âWe ran into that gentleman I told you about after you left yesterday,â she explained.
