Chapter 684
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 684:
âShe prepared dinner before she left. Iâve eaten already.â
âReally?â Eric remained puzzled, watching her closely.
âThen what has you so preoccupied right now?â
Her attire, complete with an apron, signaled her current task in the kitchen.
âIâve prepared something special for you.â Hadleyâs smile was warm as she spoke.
âFor me?â
âYes, just about ready,â Hadley replied, turning off the heat and removing the potâs lid.
Curious, Eric leaned in to see a single pear, still in its skin, steaming inside the pot.
âHave you been coughing lately?â she inquired.
âI read that steamed pears help soothe the throat,â Hadley explained as she donned oven mitts to carefully extract the bowl from the pot.
âLet it cool a bit before you try it,â she said, setting the bowl aside to cool.
Looking up, she noticed Ericâs astonished expression.
âIs something the matter?â Hadley asked, a hint of concern in her voice.
âYou donât like pears?â
âNo, itâs justâ¦â Eric paused, and then stepped forward to wrap his arms around her in a grateful embrace.
âHadley, thank you for this. You really shouldnât have gone to all this trouble for me.â
Caught off guard by his reaction, Hadley chuckled softly.
âItâs really no trouble at all, quite simple actually.â
Ericâs smile was genuine, appreciating not the complexity of the task but the thoughtfulness behind it.

âHadley,â he murmured, gently holding her chin.
âDo you have feelings for me?â he inquired softly.
He was aware of her past with Denver, wondering if she still held any affection for him.
âTell me, do you have even the slightest liking for me?â he whispered.
Eric stood watching Hadley intently, a quiet hopefulness glimmering behind his eyes, clearly waiting for her response.
A slight discomfort crept through Hadley, and she fidgeted nervously in his hold, skirting around his question.
âWhy donât you try the pear first? Itâll get too cold if you keep waiting. Let me get you a spoon.â
Was Hadley avoiding him?
Yet Eric noticed immediately, clearly sensing the unease hiding beneath her evasion.
Still, she hadnât openly turned him down.
Holding her closer, he stubbornly refused to loosen his grip.
âYouâre being evasive again. Is admitting you like me really such a big deal?â
He bent toward her, stealing a gentle kiss.
âForget the spoon. Iâll grab one myself. You took the time to cook this, and I intend to enjoy every bite.â
Finally letting go, he headed toward the cupboard.
As Hadley watched him go, a wave of dizziness suddenly washed over her.
For a fleeting second, uncertainty tugged at her resolve.
