Chapter 724
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 724:
âI will,â Ernest replied, though his attention remained on Elissa.
His usual composed demeanor softened just a fraction as he looked at her.
When he finally spoke, his voice was quieter, gentler. âGet some rest.â
Elissa blinked, momentarily caught off guard. She lowered her gaze slightly, her voice almost shy. âI will. Thank you, Mr. Flynn.â
Ernest pressed his lips together. âYouâre welcome.â
But even as he said it, the words felt undeserved. Because if this was all he could do for her⦠and it still wasnât enough.
Elissa settled onto the hospital bed, the soft hum of the IV drip filling the silence. Hadley sat beside her, arms crossed, concern etched into every line of her face.
âHadley, Iâm sorry for troubling you,â Elissa murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Hadley scoffed, shaking her head. âWhat nonsense are you saying?â she lightly scolded. âHavenât you done enough for me before?â Friendship wasnât about keeping score!
A pause. Then, carefully, Hadley spoke again. âI donât want to pry, but⦠was it Robin?â
For a moment, Elissa didnât speak. Then, slowly, she gave the smallest of nods. Hadley let out a sharp sigh, frustration flashing in her eyes. âElissa, are you really going to keep letting yourself be dragged down by a man like that? Heâs a liar, a manipulatorâhell, heâs a married man! And now, heâs hitting you? Elissa, please, listen to me. Walk away. Break free from him before itâs too late.â
âHadleyâ¦â Elissaâs voice wavered, breaking. âRobin⦠heâs not just some man.â She took a sharp breath and then forced the words out, as if saying them aloud made them real. âHeâs my husband. I am his wife.â

What?
For a long moment, Hadley could only stare. Then, suddenly, everything clicked. Of course. It all made sense now. Elissa had never been the type to interfere in someone elseâs marriage. She never would have.
Elissa let out a choked sound, pressing her trembling fingers to her lips. âHe wasnât like this before,â she murmured. âHe changed⦠because of me.â
Elissa and Robin had met at the peak of their youth, a time when love felt invincible. They were a perfect matchâadmired, envied, the kind of couple others spoke of in hushed awe. Their families, well-matched in wealth and influence, had welcomed the union with open arms. Everything seemed to align, as if fate itself had blessed their love story. Elissa had envisioned a simple, beautiful life with Robinâmarriage, children, quiet happiness. She never imagined a different ending.
But fate clearly had other plans. On the night of her wedding, the dream she had cherished shattered in an instant.
She had spent the night in the arms of her loverâor so she had believed. But as dawn broke, the world around her crumbled. The door to the bridal chamber burst open with a deafening crash.
Elissa jolted awake, her mind still hazy, her body aching from the night before. The room was a messâdisheveled sheets and discarded clothing. Her wedding dress lay in tatters on the floor, the delicate fabric torn and ruined. The marks on her skin, the lingering warmth on the bed, the unmistakable stain on the sheetsâevidence of what had transpired.
The fairytale she had believed in had just become a nightmare.
Elissa would never forget the look on Robinâs faceâthe sheer disgust, the fury twisting his features as he stared at her.
