Chapter 736
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 736:
Over the phone, Hadley gave a concise rundown of the previous nightâs incident. âAnd then⦠I woke up at the hospital.â
âThatâs not a good sign,â Dr. Duncan said, concern threading through his voice. âYouâre at the peak of your ovulation period. The medication might have been too aggressive this time. Hadley, if you still donât conceive this time⦠I wouldnât recommend taking it again.â
Hadley forced out a response, her voice barely above a whisper. âAlright. Weâll see. Thank you, Dr. Duncan.â
The call ended with a soft click. Hadley lowered the phone to her lap, staring at the screen. The more she reached for something, the further it seemed to slip from her grasp.
But before she could dwell on the thought for long, voices outside her door drew her attention. Eric arrived at the hospital, his presence commanding even in his disheveled state. The exhaustion from a hangover weighed on him, but it was nothing compared to the sharp worry in his eyes.
His voice was low, rough from tension. âHow is my wife? What caused her to faint?â
The doctor, calm but serious, responded, âFrom an initial assessment, Mrs. Flynn appears to be physically weak. However, for a precise diagnosis, she should undergo a full-body examination today.â
âAlright,â Eric said, nodding once before pushing the door open.
Inside, a nurse stood by Hadleyâs bedside, carefully helping her drink from a glass of water. As soon as she saw him, Hadley gave a faint smile. âYouâre here.â
She took another small sip, her fingers trembling slightly around the cup. Eric didnât move at first. He just stood there, staring. Her bare face, usually vibrant, looked pale and fragile under the soft morning light.

She was already too thin, but lying there now, bundled under the hospital sheets, she looked so small, so delicate, like she could shatter with just a gentle touch. His chest tightened, guilt coiling around his ribs like a vice.
The nurse helped Hadley settle back into bed, tucking the blanket around her before stepping away quietly. Eric moved forward, sitting on the edge of the bed. Without a word, he reached for her hand, cradling it between his own.
âHadley⦠Iâm sorry.â
He had ignored her calls. On purpose. Because of jealousy. Because of his own damn ego.
Hadley must have been terrified when she kept calling him, desperate for help, only to be met with silence. What had she felt in that moment? And if the cleaning lady hadnât come back and found her in timeâ¦
He couldnât bear to imagine what could have happened.
Without thinking, he leaned forward, wrapping his arms around herâblanket and allâpulling her into a desperate embrace. âIâm so sorry.â
Hadley didnât resist. She couldnâtâher body was too weak. But even if she had the strength to push him away, what difference would it make?
As she lay in his arms, a thought surfacedâone she couldnât shake. Four years ago, she had been in a hospital just like this. And just like now, he hadnât been there when she needed him the most.
âHadley?â
Eric cupped her cheeks, his thumbs gently brushing over her pale skin. His voice was raw with regret. âIt wonât happen again. No matter what, I promise, Iâll always answer your callsâ¦â
