Chapter 737
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 737:
âEric?â
Hadleyâs voice cut through the moment, her tone soft but unwavering. Eric blinked. âYes? What is it?â
Cradled in his palms, Hadley let out a faint smileâone that didnât quite reach her eyes. âI was just wondering⦠have you ever ignored Lindaâs calls?â
Eric froze. Hadleyâs faint smile remained, but there was an unmistakable sadness in it. âIf it had been her calling you last night, would you have ignored it?â
âHadleyââ
Ericâs chest tightened painfully. She wasnât angry. She wasnât crying. Yet thisâthis quiet, resigned hurtâwas far worse than any outburst she could have had.
âHadley, I was wrong.â His voice was barely above a whisper. âPlease, forgive me this time. I swearâit wonât happen again.â
Hadley didnât push him away.
âAlright,â she murmured, her voice unreadable. âThatâs what you said.â
âYes!â Eric tightened his hold, as if afraid she would slip through his fingers. âNever again!â
Carefully, he eased her back against the pillows, making sure she was comfortable. Then, he spoke up again. âThe doctor said we need to run some tests to find out why you fainted. Just a routine examinationââ
âNO!â Before he could even finish, Hadley shut him down with firm resistance. âI donât want any tests.â
Eric frowned, his voice turning gentle as he tried to coax her. âCome on, sweetheart, letâs just check to be sure. Alright?â

âIâm just a little weak from skipping meals.â Hadley shook her head, already turning away. âI was trying to lose a few more pounds. Nothing serious.â No matter what Eric said, she refused.
âI donât like hospitals. I donât like examinations.â Her voice turned cold as she completely ignored him. âDonât force me.â
Eric let out a low exhale, rubbing his temple. Even when he was just trying to take care of her, she found a way to push back. Yet, despite everythingâhe couldnât help but indulge her.
âAlright, alrightâno tests,â Eric sighed, relenting with a small shake of his head. He wasnât going to fight her on this. Not now. âBut listen,â he added, ânext time you feel even the slightest symptom, you come to the hospital immediately. No more excuses. Deal?â
Hadley met his gaze, studying him for a moment before nodding. âAlright.â Next time? She almost laughed at the thought.
Since she had refused the examination, the doctor had simply given her a list of precautions before signing off on her discharge.
That evening⦠After dinner, Hadley stretched out her arms toward Eric. âCarry me, please.â
âFeeling lazy today?â With a playful tap to her nose, he crouched down in front of her, motioning with his hands. âHop on, honey.â
Hadleyâs lips curled into a smile as she leaned forward, wrapping her arms around his shoulders.
