Chapter 748
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 748:
Ernest, observing Elissaâs fragile state, nodded in understanding. âI see now,â he said, rising from his seat.
Hadley, also standing, asked, âAre you leaving?â
âNo,â Ernest replied, shaking his head. âIt wouldnât be right to leave her alone. Iâll arrange for a skilled caregiver.â
A warmth spread through Hadley as she expressed her gratitude. âErnest, thank you so much. On Elissaâs behalf, I really appreciate it.â
Ernest dismissed the gratitude with a shake of his head. âThereâs no need.â For him, arranging a caregiver was a modest act of kindness, though he knew it might not be enough in the long run.
Later that evening, Hadley sent Eric a message, asking him to pick her up from the hospital. Elissa remained sedated and unresponsive. The caregiver, arranged by Ernest, had already been briefed by Hadley before she left the room.
During peak hours, the elevator was crowded.
âMake way!â someone called out through the cramped space.
Amidst the chaos, Hadley found herself being pushed back, almost losing her footing. âHadley!â
Suddenly, she felt a strong grip around her waist, stabilizing her.
Looking up, she recognized Eric.
With a grateful smile, she acknowledged his presence. âYouâre here.â She had thought he was supposed to wait in the car.
Ericâs gaze hardened as he surveyed the packed elevator. âLucky I got here in time to prevent you from being jostled too much.â

Hadley chuckled, brushing off the concern. âItâs just a packed elevator, no big deal.â
It seemed some people lacked basic courtesy.
âEveryone, step aside!â
The command came from a strong, assertive male voice, echoing through the crowded space as the person made his way forward forcefully.
âMr. Scott, be careful.â
Hadleyâs curiosity piqued at the arrogance in the voice. She craned her neck to see better.
A well-dressed man emerged from the elevator.
Considering his age, Hadley mused that he might have been old enough to be her grandfather if he had started a family at a young age.
Despite his years, he maintained a vibrant appearance, likely due to meticulous self-care. Moreover, he was remarkably attractive, his sophisticated aura enhanced by his age. Something about him seemed strangely familiar to Hadley, like a face from a half-remembered dream.
âWhy are you staring?â Eric interrupted, waving his hand before her eyes. âIs he really that fascinating?â
Hadley hesitated to express her true thoughts.
Ericâs expression showed his irritation.
Quietly, she asked Eric, âWho is he? He comes off as rather full of himself.â It struck her as unusual; even Nyla didnât cause such a stir when she visited the hospital.
