Chapter 76
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 76:
âHadley?â Linda responded nonchalantly. âOh, she left a bit ago. Said she wasnât hungry.â
âNot hungry?â
Eric let out a derisive laugh. Lately, ânoâ seemed to be Hadleyâs new favorite word, as if she were trying to make it her trademark. Always declining offers.
He pushed his plate aside and stood up.
âWhere do you think youâre going?â Linda reached out, grasping his arm.
âTo look for her. She might skip lunch if we donât.â
âOh, drop it!â Linda laughed, releasing his arm. âShe was quite clear. Plus, you know her background in dance. Dancers tend to be strict with their diets.â
âStrict with her diet?â
Eric was skeptical. Despite her recent return, heâd observed her eating habits. Hadley had a strong appetite.
âYou donât understand. She really can eat.â
With that, he pushed back from the table and exited.
Linda watched him go, her smile fading into a more troubled expression.
Linda was upset by Ericâs words. What did he mean by saying she didnât understand Hadley? Or did he mean to say that he did? To the extent that heâd sacrificed his meal to find her?
However, once outside, Eric found no trace of Hadley. Where could she have gone? With Nylaâs surgery still underway, it seemed unlikely sheâd just leave.
Eric retrieved his phone and called Hadleyâs number. She didnât answer, but he could already hear the ringtone. Suddenly, he realized the sound was close by. Drawn to the ringtone, Eric headed toward the fire escape stairwell and spotted Hadley.
âHello?â Hadley spoke into her phone just as the call disconnected.
âHuh? Whatâs happening?â
âWhat are you doing here?â Ericâs voice emerged unexpectedly from behind her.

Caught off guard, Hadley turned sharply, her eyes wide with surprise.
âEric, what brings you here?â
âItâs you I should be questioning,â Eric retorted, his expression tinged with irritation. âWhy are you secluding yourself out here? Come and join me for lunch. Must I really persuade you like a child?â
âThereâs no need for that!â
âNot this again!â Eric was growing tired of the repetition. âHadley, is that all you can say to me? We have no idea when Grandma will be out of surgery. What if she needs you, and youâve passed out from not eating? I donât want to deal with that mess.â
âI donât really need toâ¦â
âTell me the truthâ¦â
Ericâs dark eyes intensified as they focused on Hadleyâs face, interrupting her.
âAre you just avoiding Linda?â
What?
Hadley was taken aback. Was that his assumption? Her silence led him to believe he was correct.
