Chapter 764
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 764:
âGuess who I ran into today?â Hadley narrowed her eyes, a teasing lilt in her voice.
âWho?â Eric furrowed his brows, genuinely puzzled.
Hadley scoffed, her arms folding across her chest. âOh, drop the act.â
âWhat?â Eric ran a hand through his hair. âYouâre here as a mentor for the show, right? So⦠let me guess. Linda?â
Hadley arched a brow, her silence speaking louder than words.
âI swear, I had no idea!â Eric protested. âEast Entertainment Mediaâit was Ernestâs creation, built for Linda. Now that heâs awake, of course, heâs looking after her career again. You have to believe meâ¦â
Hadley neither confirmed nor denied whether she believed him. Her phone buzzed in her hand.
That unknown caller ID again.
She drew in a breath before answering. âWho is this?â
âHadley!â A flustered female voice soundedâit was Elissa.
âElissa?â
Hadleyâs eyes widened in surprise, a rush of warmth filling her chest. It had been so long since sheâd last seen or heard from Elissaâever since she was discharged from the hospital. âHow are you now?â Hadley asked eagerly. âIs your eyesightââ
Before she could finish, another voice cut through the line, sharp and impatient.
âWhat do you think youâre doing, Miss Holland?â
A small, startled gasp escaped Elissaâthen the call abruptly ended. âElissa? Elissa?â Hadley called out, but the only response was the empty dial tone.
Th3n r34d th3 l3g1t v3rs10n: g4ln0v3ls.c0m.
She stared at her phone, bewildered. What just happened? Elissa had reached outâyet barely spoken. The entire call had ended in mere seconds.
Hadleyâs grip on her phone tightened, a deep frown etching across her face. Something was definitely wrong.
âIs everything okay?â Eric didnât have much interest in Elissaâs affairs, but he couldnât ignore the worry etched on Hadleyâs face. âIs your friend in trouble?â
Hadley looked up, her brows still knitted in concern. For a fleeting moment, she hesitated. Maybe it was because Eric was the only one here. Maybe it was because, despite everything, he had been showing her unexpected kindness lately. Or maybeâwithout realizing itâshe had started seeing him as someone she could turn to.
Without second-guessing herself, she blurted out, âCan you trace a number?â She unlocked her phone, quickly scrolling to the call log before showing him. âElissa just called me, but her number was blocked.â
Eric glanced at the screen, then at Hadley, his expression questioning. âDidnât you recognize her voice? So, it should be her number, right?â
âIndeed,â Hadley replied, gripping her phone a little tighter. âBut something doesnât feel right. I mean, I have her number saved, so why would it be an unknown number? I have a bad feeling⦠I think somethingâs happened to her.â
Ericâs brows furrowed slightly. âWhy do you say that?â He knew a bit about Elissaâs situation. âDidnât her grandfather take her in? Shouldnât she be safe with him?â
Hadleyâs expression darkened.
