Chapter 772
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 772:
âShh, lower your voiceâ¦â
âAnd why should I? Since when is being late excusable?â
âMaybe someone should check with her assistant again?â Tessie paced anxiously, gripping her phone tightly. Linda had given her word that she would be on timeâwhat could have gone wrong?
Clenching her jaw, she redialed.
After several long rings, Linda finally picked up.
âLinda, are you caught in traffic?â Tessie asked gingerly.
âIâm not coming tonight.â Lindaâs voice was icily decisive before she abruptly ended the call.
âHello?â
Tessie was taken aback. She wasnât coming? And without so much as a word of explanation? How was she supposed to justify this to everyone else? But Linda was a difficult person to offend. Torn between her feelings, Tessie made her way into the rehearsal room, forcing a smile onto her face.
âIâm really sorry, everyone. Linda had a scheduling conflict, so tonightâs rehearsal is off.â
The room erupted with grumbles.
âShe could have let us know sooner instead of leaving us hanging!â
âDoes anyone elseâs time not count?â
Tessie found herself apologizing over and over, âI truly apologize, everyone⦠I really do.â
She then approached Hadley. âMiss Pearson, Iâm sorry⦠for making you wait as well.â
âItâs alright.â
Hadley offered a gentle smile, her demeanor much calmer compared to the others. She usually finished work around this time, so it hadnât really disrupted her evening.
âIâll be heading out then,â Hadley said.
âSure, Miss Pearson.â
In the dressing room, Hadley couldnât shake the thought of why Linda had failed to show up despite their agreement.
She checked her phone and saw an unread message.
Eric had sent it just five minutes ago. âIâm here, at the main entrance.â
After changing into her clothes, she stepped outside and spotted Eric waiting by his car in the distance.
âTired?â he asked, taking her backpack.
âI didnât do much tonight.â Hadley shook her head, her gaze piercing as she looked up at him. âLinda didnât show up, leaving everyone in the lurch. Do you know why?â
âHmm?â Eric tilted his head, chuckling lightly. âHow would I know?â
Noticing her skepticism, he smirked. âWhat, are you putting me to the test? I genuinely have no idea. Want me to ask Ernest?â
He reached for his phone, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.
âNo need!â Hadley quickly intervened.
It was late, and she didnât want to disturb Ernest for something so trivial.
âYou sure?â Eric teased, his eyes shining with playful mischief. âIâm afraid you wonât believe me and might get jealous for no reason!â
