Chapter 786
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 786:
âDenver, listenââ
This wasnât supposed to happen!
Panic surged through Wilma as she hurriedly grasped her sonâs arm. âPlease, just let me explainââ
âFine, then.â Denverâs voice dropped sharply, eyes coldly fixed on his mother. âIâm listening. Explain yourself clearly.â
âDenverâ¦â Wilmaâs voice trembled as tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
What explanation could she possibly offer now? She never imagined her careless boasting would expose something she desperately hoped would remain hidden.
âWell? Arenât you going to speak? Or is the truth too shameful for you to admit?â Denver clenched his jaw tightly, barely controlling his fury. âTell me clearlyâwhat exactly did you do to Hadley?â
All this time, heâd blamed Eric for their painful separation!
âCould it beâ¦â His voice grew darker. âDid our breakup have nothing to do with Eric like I believed?â
âDenverâ¦â Wilma whispered, unable to find the words, knowing the truth was even uglier than he could ever imagine. âTell me everythingâright now!â
Recalling Hadleyâs tearful face from that day, Denver felt a deep ache resurfacing, raw and relentless. At the time, heâd been utterly devastated by what he perceived as her betrayal. Yet, he clearly remembered her joyful expression when heâd arrived from Prineville to see her in Blathe.
In those precious moments, heâd sensed Hadley was ready to say âyesâ to being with him. Then suddenly, without warning, everything fell apart. Something didnât add up!

Wilma stayed tight-lipped, causing Denverâs suspicion to deepen.
âHadley didnât willingly leave me, did she? Did you and Eric plot something against her? Did you frame her?â If that was true, heâd been played for a complete fool.
âNo, no!â Wilma hastily shook her head, attempting to defend herself. âIt wasnât EricâI never worked with him. I hired someone local in Blathe, but somehow Eric got involved instead and ended up in bed with her!â
Wilma, still blinded by her own arrogance, sneered disdainfully. âShe was greedy, shamelessly playing with your feelings while being involved with Ericââ
âEnough, Mom!â Denverâs voice thundered in the room, his complexion turning pale, veins pulsing visibly at his temples. He stared at his mother, profound disappointment clouding his eyes, and whispered painfully, âStop saying these horrible things⦠just stop!â
An unbearable wave of grief crashed over him, choking his voice. âHow could youâ¦â To think his own mother had deliberately arranged for someone to harm the girl he loved⦠Hadley must have been terrifiedâalone and desperate in that moment!
âDenver, listen to me,â Wilma pleaded weakly, shaking her head frantically. âI never intended real harmâI only wanted to scare her awayââ
âStop it!â Denverâs disappointment transformed into raw anger, his eyes reddening dangerously. âTell me honestly, Mom, do you even care about my happiness?â
âDenver,â Wilma said anxiously, visibly shaken. âOf course Iââ
âNo,â Denver interrupted bitterly, a humorless smile on his lips. âNo, you donât. You single-handedly destroyed the first genuine love of my life. Hadley meant everything to me!â
