Chapter 798
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 798:
âNo hurry,â Eric said, voice calm as he carried her downstairs. âIâll drop you at the hospital first. Hang tightâIâll grab the car.â
He turned to the housekeeper. âFetch Miss Pearsonâs coat!â
âRight away, Mr. Flynn!â
The moment Eric loosened his grip, Hadley darted upstairs like a deer.
âHold it right there!â Eric dashed after her, confusion sharpening his voice. âWhy are you running?â
Caught off guard, Hadleyâs foot twisted beneath her. As she teetered on the edge of a fall, Eric lunged forward and scooped her into his arms.
âWatch yourself!â
Hadleyâs eyes flew wide, her pulse hammering, thoughts scattering like leaves in the wind. Her knees buckled, and she crumpled.
âHadley!â Eric cried, arms snapping shut around her to break her fall. âGet to the door and summon my bodyguardsânow!â
âYes, Mr. Flynn!â
Soon they reached the hospital. Eric rushed beside her as they entered the emergency area.
âDoctor, what is wrong with my wife? She passed outâis it the pain? Did she go into shock?â
âMr. Flynn,â the doctor replied, voice gentle but firm, âyour wifeâs fainting has nothing to do with her arm. She collapsed because she is pregnant.â

âIs she truly with child?â Eric stopped dead, his voice trembling. âAre you absolutely certain? Thereâs no chance of a mix-up?â After all, he and Hadley had always been meticulous with their precautions, and theyâd weathered a scare before that turned out to be a false alarm.
âIndeed, Iâm certain,â the doctor replied calmly. âBoth the urine and blood tests confirm itâno error. Sheâs in the earliest stages, not yet a fortnight along. In six to eight weeks, an ultrasound will reveal the first tender signs of life.â
The doctor stole a glance at Ericâs face, looking for a hint of his reaction. Ericâs expression was unreadableâjoy or dismay?
A storm of emotions churned behind Ericâs furrowed brow. Yet he quickly accepted the truth: no method of protection was ever completely foolproof. Hadleyâs recent dizzy spells, her sudden lack of appetite, and the constant weariness that clung to her now made perfect sense. The verdict was clearâHadley was expecting.
This should have been a moment of pure delight, but Eric found himself teetering on the brink of uncertainty. When it came to children, he believed the decision was entirely Hadleyâsâshe would be the one to carry this little life. As for him, he was content either way. The Flynn family line was already secure in Ernest and young Locke, yet if fate chose to bless them with another child, Eric would embrace that child with all his heart.
But what of Hadley? What thoughts shone behind her closed eyes? Would she welcome this little one as he did? Ericâs gaze drifted to the drawn curtains, behind which Hadley lay in repose, and he silently vowed to support whatever choice she made.
âWhen might my wife stir from her slumber?â Eric asked softly.
âItâs difficult to pinpoint,â the doctor replied, âbut it shouldnât be long.â
Eric nodded, still adrift in thought. âIs it normal for a woman in her condition to faint? This is the second time sheâs taken a tumble.â
