Chapter 8
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 8:
Nerves made Hadleyâs mouth dry.
âItâs me.â
âWhat do you want?â Eric asked, his voice tinged with annoyance.
Surprised by his harsh tone, Hadley stuttered,
âI tried to reach Nyla, but her number seems to be disconnected.â
Eric responded coldly,
âWhy do you need Grandma? You just left, and youâre already trying to pull her back into your problems?â
Hadley quickly clarified,
âThatâs not itâ¦â
Eric didnât let her finish.
âDonât bother trying to contact Grandma. Iâve changed her number to keep you from disturbing her.â
Hadley stood speechless, tears starting to form in her eyes.
She knew Eric couldnât stand her, but wasnât her leaving the country enough?
Did he really have to cut her off from Nyla too?
Nyla had always shown her kindness, and she cherished their bond.
âAnything else?â Ericâs voice was losing patience. âWe sent you abroad to become more self-reliant, not to continue relying on us like youâve done all your life. Iâm going to hang up now!â
âWait, please!â Hadley interjected quickly, desperation clear in her voice. âItâs regarding the living expenses⦠they havenât been sent yet.â
âReally?â
Ericâs smile was cold, dripping with scorn.
âSo, this is about money, isnât it? Not even a month has passed. Whatâs the hurry? Rest assured, youâll receive your due. Just be patient. Surely, you donât think weâd let you go hungry?â

He paused briefly, his tone becoming terse.
âAvoid calling me unless itâs urgent. Iâll get in touch if thereâs any need.â
With those final words, the conversation abruptly ended.
Clasping the phone tightly, Hadleyâs shock was evident.
To such an extent, Eric despised her.
âAbsurd.â
With a frail chuckle, Hadleyâs face turned ashen. Requesting money from him had left her feeling profoundly demeaned.
In silence, she lifted her hand to her unchanged stomach, closed her eyes, and allowed tears to escape quietly.
Eight months had passed.
Hadley was sleeping peacefully in her modest room, her pregnant belly prominently displayed.
The arrival of her child was approaching. Despite the doctorâs recommendation for early hospitalization due to the babyâs breech position, Hadley merely smiled and remained silent.
