Chapter 800
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 800:
âYouâre welcome.â
She opened her mouth again, but Ericâs focus had already shifted back toward the closed door.
In the quiet hospital room, Hadley stirred. Her eyelids fluttered open with slow, deliberate grace, and the sterile surroundings jogged her memoryâshe was in a hospital.
Hadleyâs last memory was collapsing into Ericâs armsâhe must have brought her here. What had happened since? Her mind raced to one pressing question: was she pregnant? And if so, had Eric been told? A sudden chill gripped her as cold sweat prickled her skin.
She flung the covers aside, swung her legs over the bed, and made for the door. Her heart pounded in her chest.
âEricâ¦â
Lindaâs voice thundered behind her, the question forcing a shiver through Hadleyâs limbs. She bit her lip and let the words tumble out. âAre you certain youâre the father?â
Time itself seemed to pause as Ericâs eyes narrowed, his face hardening. âWhat are you implying? Do you even hear yourself?â
âEric!â
Linda squared her shoulders and faced him head-on. âHavenât you ever wondered? Hadley has never truly wanted to be with you! Itâs Denver sheâs smitten with. Theyâve been sneaking aroundâyou saw them embrace. Whoâs to say what elseââ
âEnough!â Ericâs voice cut through her tirade like a blade. His expression darkened further, a storm brewing in his eyes as he glared at Linda. âWhat rubbish are you spewing?â

âRubbish?â Linda laughed bitterly. âEric, youâre utterly besotted! Are you so in love that youâd turn a blind eye to her betrayalââ
Her words died on her lips as her gaze locked onto something behind them. Eric stiffened, a sinking feeling in his gut. Turning to follow Lindaâs stare, he saw Hadley standing in the doorway, wide-eyed and fully awake.
He surged forward, arms outstretched to steady her, but Hadley sidestepped, offering Linda a faint, enigmatic smile.
âI heard every word you said.â
âHadley!â Eric caught her wrist, his brow creasing with concern. He softened his tone as he guided her back into the room. âLetâs go inside and talk.â
His wordsâfull of comfort and conciliationâwere meant for her alone.
âNo need,â Hadley replied, tilting her head and fixing Linda with that faint, knowing smile. âYouâre rightâEric isnât the father.â
A shiver ran down Lindaâs spine, a cocktail of joy and exhilaration bubbling inside her. She tilted her head toward Eric, her voice brimming with triumph. âDid you catch that? Hadley just spilled the beans herself!â
But Eric didnât meet her gaze. His stormy eyes were fixed on Hadley, a thundercloud brewing behind them.
Clenching his jaw, he muttered under his breath, âLetâs take this inside!â
Hadley let out a sharp, bitter laugh, slicing through the tension like a knife. âWhy bother stepping inside? Didnât you hear it loud and clear the first time? Iâve got no problem repeating myself.â
