Chapter 808
Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now
Chapter 808:
âGet up,â Eric snapped, his tone leaving no room for argument. âGet your butt downstairs and eatânow.â
âI donât wanna,â Hadley mumbled. âIâm exhausted. Barely slept last night.â
Barely slept?
Ericâs jaw tightened. She had probably stayed up scheming to rattle him and bolt, and now that her little plan had flopped, she was throwing a hunger-strike tantrum.
Holding back a flood of irritation, he growled, âYou gonna eat on your own, or do I need to come back there and spoon-feed you myself?â
The sharp edge of anger in his voice sliced through Hadleyâs drowsiness, jolting her awake in an instant.
She propped herself up, clutching the phone. âIâll eat. Iâm getting up now,â she assured him, her tone soft but firm.
âDonât think you can pull the wool over my eyes. Fiona will spill the beans if you skip a meal.â With that, he abruptly ended the call.
Feeling mildly chastised through the receiver, Hadley sighed, set the phone aside, and tossed a shawl over her shoulders before drifting downstairs. In the dining room, Fiona was busy laying out a tempting spread for lunch.
âMiss Pearson, now that youâre expecting, feel free to whisper your cravings in my ear anytime,â Fiona said with a warm, welcoming smile.
âMr. Flynn mentioned your pregnancy and asked if I would be willing to stay on as a live-in housekeeper. Naturally, I jumped at the chance.â
A cushy job with a generous paycheck, looking after just two peopleâwhat more could she ask for? Sure, the man of the house wasnât exactly a chatterbox, but as long as she kept the lady happy, it was smooth sailing.

Opportunities like this didnât grow on trees.
âMiss Pearson, if there is anything you need, donât hesitate to give me a shout,â Fiona added cheerfully.
So that was the lay of the land. Ericâs thoughtfulness had swooped in right on cue, as reliable as ever, never missing a beat.
Hadleyâs lips curved into a faint smile. âI appreciate it, Fiona. Thank you.â
âTake your time with lunch. Iâll get started on tonightâs soupâitâs one of those slow-simmered delights that needs a gentle touch over low heat,â Fiona said as she bustled off.
Fionaâs soups were a godsend, rich and flavorful. Lately, Hadleyâs appetite had been playing hide-and-seek, and it was Fionaâs soup that kept her going.
As Hadley savored the warm spoonfuls, Theodore strode in. âMiss Pearson,â he greeted with a nod.
Hadley tilted her head, curiosity piqued. âIs something up?â
âHereâs the deal,â Theodore began, dipping his chin. âMr. Flynn wants you to go back to your work at the TV station this afternoon, and Iâm to tag along.â
So, Eric was letting her step out? With Theodore as her shadow, no less. Hadley stifled a chuckle. Was he fretting she would do something rash with the baby, or was it her and Denver that had him on edge?
Did he trust her or not? His faith in her was a peculiar thingâteetering on the edge of doubt and care.
